Renewable Energy is a new and exciting space within the Ontario landscape.  Driven by the Green Energy Act and Feed In Tariff program, Stantec has experienced considerable growth in engineering of renewable energy projects.  Stantec's Industrial team provides a full range of innovative services to support the operations of our industrial, manufacturing and green energy/power clients through a variety of value-added processes.

 

Within Renewable Energy Stantec’s Manufacturing/Industrial Group offers services for all phases of the project life cycle, from pre-project planning and approvals with the Ontario Power Authority through to detailed design to meet Hydro One Networks Inc. and other Local Distribution Company (LDC) requirements.  Stantec has been involved in the design delivery for Electrical Engineering beyond 200MW for Wind Turbine Generator projects.  Leveraging our multi-discipline approach to renewable energy projects Stantec is able to offer complete engineering solutions to support developers, owners and constructors.

Responsibilities:

We have an opportunity in our Kitchener or Markham Offices for a Wind Renewable Energy Electrical Engineer in our growing Power division within our Manufacturing / Industrial group. Designing the AC components of a Wind Power Project for distributed generation systems, you will be responsible for developing Single Line Drawings (SLD) for connection impact assessment, COVER process with HONI, protection and controls, preparing specifications for the procurement of Balance of Plant (BOP) electrical equipment and prepare scope documents for construction tenders and contracts.

 

Liaising with power authorities, clients and contractors and providing assistance you will also be responsible for managing SLD’s and development of accompanying documents in compliance with appropriate jurisdictions. Ensuring the delivery of stable and clean electricity, you will enjoy the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, with the liberty to take on a project management role as desired. 

Qualifications:
  • Wind Energy Experience (preferred but not mandatory)
  • Electrical Engineer designation (Ontario P.Eng required )
  • Residency in Ontario required
  • A minimum of five years experience in the design of electrical systems and grid connections.  Experience in design of transmission system and protection & controls, is an asset

Assets:

  • Understanding of Consulting Engineering role in approvals process with (ESA, HONI, LDC, Municipality, etc.)
  • WindPro, NRG Symphony and other Wind related tools is an asset
  • Wire sizing and calculations for cable and feeder routing throughout an outdoor Medium Voltage grid connected solution
  • Onsite construction support experience
  • Grounding experience
  • Experience with ETAP, SKM or Easypower required
  • Power conductor selection and optimization
  • Connection Impact Assessment and Short Circuit Analysis using DESS an asset
