GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Represent the International Wolf Center in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current members, donors, visitors, vendors and the communities we serve.
- Interacts effectively with a diverse group of staff, interns, volunteers and other customers of our services.
- Learn and use operating practices of the International Wolf Center.
- Uphold the organizational mission statement.
- Adhere to organizational standards of objectivity and scientific accuracy in all educational activities.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Merchandise Management for Internet, Mail Order, Off-site Sales:
- Maintain up to date vendor and product information.
- Research and purchase quality inventory in coordination with Store and Guest Services Manager to manage on-hand inventory levels.
- Work with vendors to create custom products.
- Negotiate wholesale prices and payment terms with vendors.
- Price products to ensure the best possible profit margins.
- Conduct a monthly inventory spot check and yearly complete inventory.
- Increase sales each year.
Supervise Staff and Volunteers:
- Coordinate with the Director of Education to recruit and hire permanent retail staff and volunteers.
- Develop and maintain job descriptions and performance objectives.
- Assign responsibilities and tasks to Store and Guest Services Manager.
- Approve schedules and staffing plans.
- Train and motivate staff and volunteers emphasizing customer service and sound money handling.
- Evaluate performance.
- Approve time sheets.
Web Store/Ecommerce:
- Coordinate with the Communications Director and Web Specialist in maintaining the various aspects of the Web Store.
- Select merchandise, secure merchandise, take photographs, prepare photos for Web use, write product descriptions/copy, create items in online store, keep online inventory current, develop and maintain category structure.
- Develop and implement source tracking and sales analysis for Web Store sales of merchandise, programs, memberships and donations.
- Oversee and help implement all aspects of the ecommerce sales fulfillment including orders, keying, packaging, and shipping while working in tandem with Operations Manager and Store and Guest Services Manager.

Budget:
- Develop budget recommendations that strive to optimize revenue and control expenses.
- Operate within the confines of the approved budget; recommend adjustments as necessary.
- Prepare expense vouchers.
- Prepare financial reports.
Computer/Technology:
- Database management of point of sale system. (QuickBooks POS)
- Database management of online point of sale system.
- Sophisticated use of QuickBooks POS software.
- Maintain proficiency with the basic functions of email, web browsers, word processors, and spreadsheets.
Department Growth:
- Identify and develop new revenue streams. (Amazon, Mall Kiosk, etc.)
Marketing:
- Collect and interpret sales and customer information in order to make sophisticated decisions or recommendations regarding inventory, store hours, advertising, and sales strategies.
- Stay abreast of wolf products through Minneapolis Gift Mart, the Museum Store Association publications, internet sources and other creative means.
- Develop yearly plan for bi-weekly promotions and weekly homepage product ads.
- Coordinate with the Communications Director on advertising efforts in International Wolf and other appropriate media.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven professional with at least 3 years experience leading all aspects of retail operations.
- Strong knowledge of Quickbooks Point of Sale, (knowledge of POSIM, helpful.) credit card processing and on-line retail management software.
- Track record of developing and maintaining departmental budgets.
- Ability to analyze sales data and adjust to maximize sales
- Demonstrated excellence in customer service.
- Excellent organizational skills.
ABILITIES AND WORKING CONDITIONS This position is subject to a highly variable work schedule based on department needs. It will include some evenings and weekends. Employee must be able to sit (60% time), stand, walk, lift/carry up to 30 lbs., operate a motor vehicle and communicate fluently in English.
ABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL WOLF CENTER: The International Wolf Center's mission is to advance the survival of wolf populations around the world by teaching about wolves, their relationship to wildlands, and the human role in their future. The world famous education interpretive building in Ely, Minnesota features daily presentations and field trips, an award winning museum exhibit and a pack of ambassador wolves living in their wooded territory. The Minneapolis office manages fundraising, membership, communications and organizational administration.
