Job Description: 
Chewonki Foundation, Inc., is a year-round, nonprofit environmental education center based on a 400-acre 
peninsula in mid-coast Maine. In addition to the semester school for high school juniors, we offer summer
camps for boys and girls, co-ed wilderness expeditions for teens and adults, programs for independent and

Mission
Chewonki is dedicated to helping people grow individually and in community with others by providing
educational experiences that foster an understanding, appreciation, and stewardship of the natural world and that
emphasize the power of focused, collective effort.
Objective
Under the direction of the kitchen and dining manager, the cook is responsible for meal preparation, cleaning,
and other tasks involved in maintaining a clean, healthy kitchen and dining room. The cook will work alone or
with other staff to ensure that meals and events provided are tasty, well balanced, on time, in compliance with
food safety standards, and cost effective.
Qualifications
Experience in the food service industry. Have a thorough understanding of State of Maine and/or ACA
standards for food service operations. Hold ServSafe certification or be able to become certified. Ability to
communicate in a clear and concise manner with staff and participants. A willingness to be part of the
Chewonki community.
General Responsibilities
Execution of meals
Food safety and sanitation
Train, supervise, and assist students
Help utilize and put up farm products
Contribute as an active member of the Chewonki
community
Salary and Other Details
Salary is based on experience. Benefits include health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, optional
retirement annuity, optional vision insurance, , community lunch, paid holidays and two weeks vacation.
