Chewonki Foundation, Inc., is a year-round, nonprofit environmental education center based on a 400-acre 
peninsula in mid-coast Maine. In addition to the semester school for high school juniors, we offer summer
camps for boys and girls, co-ed wilderness expeditions for teens and adults, programs for independent and

Mission
Chewonki is dedicated to helping people grow individually and in community with others by providing
educational experiences that foster an understanding, appreciation, and stewardship of the natural world and that
emphasize the power of focused, collective effort.
Objective
To maintain the social, emotional, and physical health of Chewonki Foundation participants and staff, under the
guidance of a nursing license. Contribute to the day-to-day operations of Chewonki’s Health Center and
support the Supervising Nurse to ensure that the Health Center is meeting the needs of participants and staff.
Qualifications
Candidates should have completed a Bachelor of Science degree and be a registered nurse in the state of Maine.
Experience working with children in a school/camp environment is essential to this position. Wilderness
leadership experience and/or a background in social work is a plus. Required certifications of WFR, CPR and
First Aid, can also be gained within 1 year of employment.
General Responsibilities
Treat routine injuries and illness
Maintain healthcare standards
Maintain health records of participants and staff in
a confidential manner
Communicate with parents an/or participants
Assist in orientation and training of staff
Determine medical needs of participants
Communicate with program directors
Uphold legal requirements and standards
Manage participant food allergies
Take part in community events and committees
Refer Workers Compensation cases appropriately
Salary and Other Details
Salary will be based on experience and credentials. Tuition remission for children in programs.
