Job Description:  Overview:

Our Environmental Management group is dedicated to managing environmental issues professionally and proactively. Our staff of professionals includes specialists in marine biology, wetland science, wildlife biology, soil science, fisheries biology, botany, hydrogeology, hydrology, contaminated sites assessment, forestry, habitat and ecosystem restoration, permitting, GIS, and Information Management. We help our clients to identify and respond to opportunities and threats within constantly changing regulatory and corporate environments, through active engagement with the public, stakeholder groups, and governmental regulators. Our team members have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of projects that may include biophysical resource surveys, environmental assessments, contaminated assessment and remediation, management planning and monitoring.

We are seeking exceptionally talented and enthusiastic individuals with a keen interest in the natural and applied sciences to join our team and advance their career.

Responsibilities:

Stantec Calgary, downtown (8 th Ave), is seeking an Intermediate Vegetation Ecologist to join our Vegetation Biological Sciences team.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage and conduct
    • Biological inventories with a focus on vegetation communities and plant species of concern, including rare species
    • Environmental impact assessments
    • A variety of natural resource planning projects
  • Intermediate level project management
  • Data analysis and management
  • Report preparation
  • Client relations
  • Supervision of interdisciplinary teams may be required
  • Field work as required.
Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Bachelors of Science in a related discipline from a recognized university
  • Minimum of 3 years experience (5 years preferred)
  • Extensive experience with vegetation and environmental assessment legislation and regulatory agencies (e.g. EUB, NEB, and CEAA)
  • Knowledge and experience with local ecosystems, particularly Alberta, BC and NWT
  • Plant species identification skills and field species inventory experience
  • Demonstrated solid technical writing skills
  • Experience participating in environmental assessments

Experience with the following would be considered an asset:

 

  • Consulting in oil and gas, pipeline and /or transmission lines projects
  • Wetland classification and survey
  • Standard forest inventory
  • Range management
  • Reclamation
  • Statistical analysis
