SUMMARY OF POSITION Cascade Land Conservancy (CLC) conserves lands and waters throughout the region, from urban natural areas to remote wildlands, in order to help maintain healthy ecosystems and create vibrant communities. Currently, CLC has five established Green City partnerships: Seattle, Tacoma, Kirkland, Redmond and Kent. The South Sound Green Cities Project Manager is responsible for the implementation of the partnership between CLC, the City of Tacoma, Metro Parks Tacoma and other stakeholders to restore Tacoma's natural areas and develop community stewardship of these lands. They will also assist with establishing new Green City Partnerships within the South Sound Region. CASCADE LAND CONSERVANCY 615 Second Ave Suite 600 Seattle, WA 98104 JOB ANNOUCEMENT The South Sound Green Cities Project Manager is responsible for day-to-day tasks, including coordinating with agency representatives, developing long-term restoration plans, coordinating community stewardship programs, oversight of volunteer management, as well as preparation of program reports, budgets, and presentations. The ideal candidate has experience in urban natural resource management or urban forestry; integration of community-based stewardship; excellent oral and written communication skills; and a commitment to the vision and goals of Cascade Land Conservancy and the Cascade and Olympic Agendas. SPECIFIC DUTIES 1. Serve as key staff member responsible for implementation of the Green Tacoma Partnership. o Staff, volunteer and intern management. o Management of work flow, production, and reporting. o Administrative tasks associated with federal appropriation award including adhering to federal policy rules and reporting standards. o Tracking and implementation of budgets and contracts. o Grant writing and adherence. o Recruitment of volunteers and partners. 2. Coordinate with city agencies on project planning and implementation. o Participate in city agency planning and implementation processes. o Help develop urban forest site restoration plans and best management practices, help write and produce long-term restoration plans, and produce other deliverables as defined by current and new scopes of work. o Serve as liaison between CLC, city agencies, and community stakeholders. o Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse partners and stakeholders. 3. Assist CLC and City staff with public outreach including: press events, fundraising events, and Green City partnerships presentations to stakeholder groups, media, partners, and more. 4. Establish positive relationships with other municipalities in the South Sound Region and assist in the development and implementation of new Green City Partnerships. 5. Other duties as assigned. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 1. Degree in natural resource management or related field. 3. 2+ years of experience as a leader in a team setting working with staff, volunteers, agency personnel, resource user groups, and others to accomplish conservation/restoration objectives. Advanced degree may substitute for up to one year of experience. 4. Knowledge of current urban forestry practices and Pacific Northwest forest, wetland and shoreline ecosystems; Pacific Northwest native and common non-native plants; and standard habitat restoration techniques covering a variety of habitat types. 5. Demonstrated ability to work independently in an office and field setting. 6. Ability to organize and manage diverse activities and set priorities. Flexible under pressure. 7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 8. Strong computer and organizational skills. 9. Ability to develop a positive working relationship with staff, volunteers, board members, donors, and community supporters. 10. Must be able to work some non-standard hours, including evenings and weekends. 11. Ability to work under physically demanding conditions, including cold and wet weather. 12. Ability to lift 50 lbs. and operate hand and power tools and other mechanical equipment. 13. Valid, insurable drivers license/record. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Degree or other specialized education/training in urban forestry or urban natural area planning and stewardship. 2. Experience as a consultant in natural resource planning and implementation.
