| Job Description: |
Overview: Our Buildings Engineering group specializes in the design and development processes unique to buildings. Working closely with our clients, our dedicated professionals help to establish and understand the specific needs of a range of building projects. This is where great ideas and rewarding careers are built. For both public and private sector clients, we provide unique plan checking capabilities as well as energy engineering and performance engineering services, covering each of the major engineering disciplines—structural, mechanical, and electrical. Focused on providing cost-effective solutions to engineering challenges, we are involved in a diverse range of projects from the initial planning stages to design, construction, and commissioning. Our structure cultivates career growth and provides opportunities as unique as you are. Responsibilities:Collaborates with in-house Mechanical Engineers as well as Architects, Project Engineers, and Project Managers to create high-performance buildings by applying thermal modeling (using IES), energy modeling (using eQuest, IES, and Energy Plus), zonal airflow analyses, Computational Fluid Dynamics (using IES) and daylight/solar analysis. Complies with state, local, or project-applicable certifying regulations regarding energy modeling, and coordinates directly with the Project Architect and other consultants to develop robust, whole-building designs which reduce reliance on mechanical systems and fossil fuels. Prepares reports, performs in-house coordination, prepares presentations to architects and other consultants, attends team meetings, prepares LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) documentation, and utilizes American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) standards and local codes. Will assist in the research, analysis, benchmarking, simulation, and optimization of building performance, developing and applying overall building performance metrics such as annual energy use and intensity, annual energy cost. Will use empirical data driven- and simulation-models to study energy use patterns associated with individual building design components (lighting, HVAC equipment, building envelope components, internal heat loads, and occupants). Will also create models to research and analyze performance, inform design, and trend expected conditions resulting from daylighting, thermal comfort, and passive building design strategies. Will collaborate with the integrated design team to enhance and influence sustainable design for projects which include Educational, Health Care, Corporate, Residential, Municipal, and Multi-use facilities. Provides technical leadership to junior analysts, including mentorship, peer reviews, and direct supervision on specific tasks on larger projects. Identifies new tools and methods needed to keep Stantec’s capabilities on the leading edge in the industry and champions the processes needed to successfully integrate these into the building engineering practice. Provides assistance with targeted business development efforts aimed at increasing awareness of the team’s modeling capabilities to be accomplished through client presentations, authoring peer-reviewed technical articles for publication, and supporting proposal preparation efforts for the managing Principal Engineer. Qualifications:Master’s degree in Architecture, Building Science, or a closely related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent) as well as 3 years experience in the job offered or in building analysis, modeling, and simulation. Or, alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree and 5 years experience as noted above. Also requires demonstrated experience using AutoCAD and eQuest (or another DOE2-based analysis tool) to analyze, model, and simulate building as well as using IES Virtual Environment or equivalent software tool to create thermal simulation models, solar shading models, and daylighting models for buildings; demonstrated ability to develop a Modeling and Simulation Plan for a building design project; demonstrated ability preparing building energy modeling and thermal comfort criteria for submission to the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) as required by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards: LEED-NC, LEED-CI, and LEED-CS; demonstrated expertise managing a team of energy modeling and simulation specialists to provide analysis deliverables on a set schedule; and demonstrated expertise preparing Washington State Energy Life Cycle Cost Analysis (ELCCA) calculations and submission documents for the Washington General Administration.
Stantec Consulting Services Inc. is willing to accept a suitable combination of education, training and experience to satisfy the requirements.
