Job Description: 

The Galveston Bay Foundation (GBF) was founded in 1987 as a nonprofit organization to preserve, protect and enhance Galveston Bay, one of the world's most productive estuaries. Its balanced programs in advocacy, conservation, education, and research strive to ensure that Galveston Bay remains a beautiful and productive place for generations to come. Position Title: Manager of Education Programs
Reports to: President
Starting Date: August 2011
Summary: GBF's Manager of Education Programs implements existing GBF school-based education programs, works to provide resources for those programs, and brings vision to the programs so those services develop an educated constituency of schoolchildren from across the Bay who recognize the importance of preserving and protecting Galveston Bay.
Specific Duties:
• Coordinate GBF's established on ongoing education programs, including Bay Ambassadors, Get Hip to Habitat, and Student Art Calendar
• Conduct public educational presentations and represent GBF at education booths
• Facilitate educator workshops and create and review relevant educational materials
• Research funding opportunities, write proposals, and administer education grants, with tasks including budgeting, evaluating, reporting, and meeting deliverables
• Represent GBF on local environmental education committees
• Coordinate education efforts and displays at GBF events
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree with two or more years related experience
• Background in education or environmental science, specifically aquatic systems and watershed concepts and issues
• Interest and ability in working directly with youth and adults on environmental projects and improving their understanding of environmental science concepts and the community policies and practices that affect the health of the Galveston Bay system
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to evaluate program successes and shortcomings
• Non-profit experience a plus
The Galveston Bay Foundation office is located in Webster, TX, in the Clear Lake area of Houston, approximately twenty-five minutes south of downtown Houston.
