The Galveston Bay Foundation (GBF) was founded in 1987 as a nonprofit organization to preserve,
protect and enhance Galveston Bay, one of the world's most productive estuaries. Its balanced programs
in advocacy, conservation, education, and research strive to ensure that Galveston Bay remains a
beautiful and productive place for generations to come. The Foundation's annual budget typically runs
at approximately $2 million, but varies depending on the projects undertaken in any given year. To learn

Position Title: Water Quality Outreach Specialist
Reports to: Director of Advocacy
Start Date: July 2011
Duties and Responsibilities:
Facilitate the completion of the Implementation Plan for Six Total Maximum Daily Loads
(TMDLs) for Bacteria in Waters of the Upper Gulf Coast. The Water Quality Outreach Specialist
will make presentations, convene meetings, meet with local government officials, finalize the draft
implementation plan, place articles in print and electronic media, and otherwise work to secure the
participation of stakeholders in the TMDL process.
Lead outreach efforts on minimizing boater sewage discharge into Galveston Bay and Clear Lake.
Develop and implement additional water quality related initiatives as needed. The Water Quality
Outreach Specialist will collaborate with the volunteer GBF Water Quality Committee in this
effort.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as biology, environmental science, or public affairs, with
a graduate degree preferred
One to three years of professional experience in conservation advocacy
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including communicating complex ideas for a
general audience
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop and manage productive relationships
with staff, consultants, partners, and others
A detail-oriented style with a focus on results
The Galveston Bay Foundation office is located in Webster, TX, in the Clear Lake area of Houston,
approximately twenty-five minutes south of downtown Houston.
Salary commensurate with qualifications; health insurance and retirement savings programs are
provided.
