Job Description: 

RMI is seeking a senior development officer. This position reports directly to the VP of Development and manages the organization's fundraising and development activities for high net worth individuals, significant giving and planned giving. The sr. development officer will also research and identify new donors, maintain relationships with existing donors, and oversee strategies to ensure that goals and objectives are met in a timely manner. Usually a minimum of 6 -8 years of progressively responsible experience is required. Out of state travel necessary.
RMI has offices in Boulder and Snowmass, Colorado. This position may be assigned in either location.
Key Responsibilities
Operates as one of the principal development officers with responsibility for securing gifts over $100,000. Represents the Institute with increased knowledge of fundraising techniques and proven record of successfully solicitation and stewardship.
Manages a portfolio of high net worth individuals in order to secure significant gifts, which includes identifying donors and developing specific strategies to cultivate, solicit and sustain relationships.
Plans measurable targets for each fiscal year with management.
Conducts ongoing research in business, philanthropy and related fields to identify potential donors and sources of donor information.
Communicates regularly the Vice President and participates as a full member of RMI development team, while effectively working with RMI staff to meet collaborative goals. Works closely with the Research and Consulting (R&C) staff in order to enhance working knowledge of technical terms and concepts.
Creates face to face relationships, writes letters of inquiry, proposals, and reports that will result in meeting annual agreed-upon dollar goals from individuals foundations, and corporations; meets deadlines for proposal submission, narratives and financial reports. Establishes productive relationships between donors, volunteers, all levels of RMI staff and trustees.
Analyzes data from Raiser's Edge software and other sources to create strategies that lead to effective solicitation.
Takes a lead role in coordinating attending and following up with special small group cultivation events (e.g., Salons), and reaching out to potential speakers and panelists, volunteers and donors, striving to meet cost and time efficiencies.

Excellent communication skills, verbally and in writing.
Expert ability to develop and maintain interpersonal relationships while upholding professionalism and confidentiality.
Expert knowledge of philanthropy, development and fundraising techniques.
Excellent ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage multiple projects and tasks and be an efficient member of a high performance, fast-paced team.
Demonstrated ability to implement effective development and fundraising techniques with volunteers and potential donors to secure gifts at the principal level.
Excellent problem solving skills and ability to analyze information.
Strong presentation skills and ability to speak in front of large groups.
Ability and desire to quickly develop content expertise.
Personal computer and software proficiency required.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent, graduate work in related field strongly preferred.
At least 6-8 years experience of direct non-profit experience with cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. Proven track record of fundraising with high net worth individuals and/or foundations.
