Job Description: 

The Program Director is responsible for overall development and success of a program with primary responsibility for the completion of projects in furtherance of the program. The Program Director will identify, develop and manage all aspects of programmatic and project work, ensuring that the programmatic mission and the revenue goals are achieved.

Essential Functions

60-70% Assists in identifying and initiating new projects and assessing community desire and capacity for park development and land conservation, including the conservation services necessary to accomplish transactions. Manages the designers and contractors hired to plan and develop parks in an urban environment. Works with the State Director, Division Transaction Director, project staff and other relevant division and national staff on planning and on the creation of strong programs and projects. Meets annual revenue goals. Manages and tracks program finances. Provides ongoing information about program and projects and activities. Tracks and reports results in addition to other administrative tasks as necessary or assigned.
30-40% Initiates and maintains relationships with elected officials and their staff who will provide critical support for the implementation of TPL's programmatic and project strategies. Working with respective national staff, introduces and markets conservation finance and philanthropy strategies in the development and implementation of various fundraising strategies; help cultivate relationships with funders to provide program support, including working with the local Advisory Council. Works with Public Affairs Department to develop presentations, articles and other materials to market The Trust for Public Land's Parks for People and land conservation services. Serves as spokesperson at appropriate conferences, meetings and public engagements. Initiates and maintains relationships with community leaders, organizations and individuals who will provide critical support for the implementation of TPL's programmatic and project strategies. Becomes very familiar with transactional specifics and works very closely with project staff in the development and implementation of funding, project and program strategies. Assists in facilitating marketing and outreach programs.
Other Responsibilities

Other relevant duties as necessary or assigned.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required.
Requires at least 4 years of experience in community-based organizations, private business or public agencies in program area.
Experience in nonprofit management and community based economics desirable.
Proven ability to raise funds; strong marketing ability.
Ability to work on complex problems where in-depth analysis and judgment is needed to select methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
Ability to establish professional relations with other employees or external contacts.
Ability to determine procedures on new assignments; provide guidance to others.
Requires high degree of creativity, discretion and resourcefulness.
Excellent oral and written communication skills; public speaking skills.
Ability to work independently and decisively with little supervision.
Computer proficiency.
