At his death in 1969, the Sanctuary had grown to over 2,000 acres.  Additional acquisitions over the years have resulted in protected wild lands totaling over 8,000 acres in the Massachusetts towns of Monson, Wales, Brimfield and Holland and the neighboring Connecticut towns of Stafford and Union.
