Stantec’s Industrial Buildings and Facilities group offers services for all phases of the project life cycle, from pre-project planning through detailed design, construction and operations to decommissioning. Our Dartmouth Business Unit consists of a multidisciplinary team of over 60 professional and technical staff who deliver creative, innovative and integrated solutions to meet our clients’ needs.

 

Our diverse group of Project Managers, Engineers, and Technologist team members specialize in the functional programming, planning and design of buildings and infrastructure needs for clients within the Manufacturing, Food & Beverage, Maintenance & Repair and National Defense sectors.  Some of our projects include:  aircraft hangars, food warehousing and distribution centres, heavy vehicle and transit maintenance facilities, office buildings and other light industrial projects.

Responsibilities: As a result of our expanded business, we have a new career opportunity in our Dartmouth office for a Junior Structural Technologist.  The successful candidate will be integral in the design and coordination of a variety of projects.  Reporting to the Senior Structural Engineer, you will assist with the preparation of construction documents and specification and coordinate the detailed design within the context of a multidisciplinary design team. Qualifications:

 The successful candidate will possess:

  • Buildings Technology diploma or certificate (preferably focusing on structural engineering technology) with a minimum of 1 year experience in drafting and design of related projects as described above
  • Experience in the design and drafting of engineering drawings using appropriate standards for structures
  • Experienced and knowledgeable with various versions of AutoCAD 2000-2010; 3-D modeling experience using AutoCAD is a definite asset; experience with Revit modeling would also be a definite asset
  • Excellent communication skills with colleagues and staff, a “team player” approach to your work and problem solving
  • Ability to successfully carry out assignments on project design teams, including drawing and document checking for accuracy, client standards and structural design as well as inter-disciplinary coordination
  • Ability to visualize 3-D from 2-D drawings
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment and coordinate drawings with other disciplines
  • Solid understanding of structural and architectural engineering aspects of light to heavy industrial facilities
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively when managing multiple tasks
