LoLoLoLocation cation cation: Columbus, Ohio The Ohio Environmental Council (OEC) seeks to hire a dynamic, energetic, and effective staffer to help push forward a clean energy agenda in several campaigns. Our Director of Clean Energy Campaigns will manage public policy efforts and be responsible for media and public outreach. The Director of Clean Energy Campaigns will oversee public policy efforts at the legislature and in the media, as well as with Ohio's executive agencies. The Director also will build relationships with business, political, and environmental leaders and stakeholders. Basic knowledge of Clean Energy and Energy Efficiency is essential. Work experience and/or an advanced degree - a J.D., MPA, MBA, or similar - is highly preferred, but not required. The Organ The Organization ization ization: The OEC's mission is to secure healthy air, land, and water for all who call Ohio home. The OEC is a statewide, nonprofit environmental advocacy organization with a fulltime staff of 17, a 20-member Board of Directors, more than 100 group members, more than 3,000 individual members, and more than 6,000 e-activists. The OEC's annual budget is $1.5 million, with approximately three-quarters coming from foundation grants, and the rest coming from private donors. The Ohio Environmental Council is Ohio's leading advocate for fresh air, clean water, and sustainable land use and has a widely respected 40-year history of innovation, pragmatism, and success. Using legislative initiatives, legal action, scientific principles, and statewide partnerships, we secure a healthier environment for Ohio's families and communities. The Position The Position: The OEC seeks to hire a unique, ahead-of-the-curve professional interested in helping the Ohio Environmental Council to push forward a clean energy agenda on a variety of fronts. Our Director of Clean Energy Programs will manage public policy efforts and be responsible for media and public outreach. The Director also will assist the Director of Energy & Clean Air Programs in overall planning and strategy development efforts. The Director's primary responsibility will be to provide leadership and expertise in coordinating and carrying out policy campaigns. This includes: Renewable Energy Energy Efficiency Pollution Controls and Clean Air Sustainable Economic Development The Director also will engage in statewide advocacy and organizing efforts and should have a basic understanding of grassroots mobilization efforts. Project fundraising responsibilities include researching funding prospects, writing concept papers, proposals, and reports, and ensuring that all grant and other funding deliverables and deadlines are met. Qualifications Qualifications: The Director of Clean Energy Campaigns must have significant leadership qualities, with demonstrated skills in advocacy, outreach, and policy development. Basic familiarity with clean energy and energy efficiency and familiarity with Ohio politics is important. The Director should be comfortable in a demanding work environment, and have good communication and team-building skills. Additionally, our new hire must possess the willingness and ability to occasionally travel and work evening and weekend hours, strong writing and speaking skills, proficiency in word processing and use of the Internet. Good energy and strong self-motivation are critical. The minimum qualifications include graduation from a recognized college or university with a Bachelors Degree. An advanced degree, and/or professional accreditation, is strongly preferred, but not required.
