Job Description:  Overview:

Stantec’s Environmental Management team in Calgary provides a wide range of environmental services in a variety of sectors, including pipelines, electrical transmission, power plants, oil sands, wind farms, and conventional oil and gas. We help our clients to identify and respond to opportunities and threats within constantly changing regulatory and corporate environments. Our more than 200 professional, technical and support staff provide extensive knowledge and capability in both regulatory planning and scientific specialties. We lead environmental assessments, regulatory strategy, public hearings, and permitting and licensing in support of regulatory applications. Our team members may be involved in air quality studies, noise impact assessments, fisheries, vegetation and wildlife studies and assessments mapping and modeling. We are seeking exceptionally talented and enthusiastic individuals with a keen interest in the natural sciences to join our team and advance their career.

Stantec’s Calgary downtown (8th Ave SW) office, has an immediate opportunity for a Senior Wildlife Biologist - Technical and Regulatory Specialist to join our Wildlife team.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Participation in the development of national technical and regulatory standards for wildlife studies within Stantec, including:
    • Biological inventories,
    • Environmental assessments,
    • Biological monitoring programs,
    • Data and statistical analysis and management
    • A variety of natural resource planning projects.
  • Senior level project management. .
  • Report preparation.
  • Client relations and business development.
  • Senior review and quality assurance and control.
Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Minimum of 15 years experience which must include environmental consulting within oil and gas sector.
  • Knowledge and experience with both provincial and federal wildlife legislation and regulatory agencies.
  • Knowledge and experience working within the various provincial and federal environmental assessment frameworks (e.g. ERCB, EPEA, NEB, CEAA).
  • Experience scoping and completing the wildlife portion of large multi-disciplinary environmental assessments in the oil and gas, mining, and wind energy sectors.
  • Experience working in western, prairie and northern ecosystems.
  • Demonstrated technical writing skills
  • Registration with the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists as a Professional Biologist is considered an asset
