Background
Ecology Action is an environmental public benefit corporation (non-profit) serving California communities by partnering with local and regional governments, regulatory agencies, and utilities to provide conservation and greenhouse gas reduction services such as pollution prevention, transportation alternatives, recycling and waste minimization, and energy efficiency. Ecology Action is engaged with the California Energy Commission and other partners to deliver a fast-paced, statewide energy efficiency, water efficiency and renewable energy program.

Project Summary and Responsibilities
In support of the State-wide Energy Upgrade California program, the Whole House Training Manager will develop, implement and oversee BPI and/or HERS II training courses in energy management and efficiency, building science (including green building), combustion safety, weatherization, workplace safety and renewable energy integration to students who are already employed in the construction, home energy performance or related fields, or are seeking employment in these fields. Training coursework must be in line with approved BPI Building Analyst and/or HERS II certification criteria as specified by the appropriate certifying agencies or providers. Responsibilities will include development of curriculum, securing training locations and venues, coordinating and promoting courses and incentives, designing student projects and activities, student learning outcome assessments and related materials, reporting course participation, and coordinating with other Ecology Action peers and managers.

Duties:

Specific Responsibilities:
• Design and oversee a statewide BPI-BA and HERS II Training Program
• Coordinate with HERS II providers to increase the number of certified raters and accessibility of certification training programs
• Promote Energy Upgrade California certification incentives and rebates
• Collaborate with statewide Workforce Development partners and industry stakeholders
• Serve as in-house technical expert on whole house building science, certification programs, general contracting and permitting, retrofits, and other home performance tools and resources
• Liaise with permitting departments as necessary to increase program awareness and uptake, and to streamline the process
• Arrange, schedule, coordinate, and facilitate an estimated 2 trainings per month for the next 12 months, resulting in an estimated (400) individuals being trained
• Oversee Subsidized Contractor Training Program vendors and mini-grant recipients in the successful completion of all additional training deliverables, resulting in an additional estimated (1800) individuals being trained
• Contribute to additional contractor outreach and promotional materials including curriculum content for IOU training program integration, contractor FAQ sheets, collateral development, and face-to-face interaction with homeowners, students, and contractors.
• Careful tracking, monitoring, and reporting on program metrics; budget tracking and progress toward goals/deliverables
Minimum Qualifications:
• Associate's Degree and/or Vocational Certification in a relevant field and five (5) years of relevant experience in areas of general construction, whole house building science, green building techniques, energy efficiency, course development and/or instruction, or other equivalent combinations of education and experience.
• Certified Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analyst
• Certified HERS II Rater and/or proctor
• Exceptional training and communication skills to effectively communicate subject matter content and the ability to relate to a diverse population in various multicultural environments.
• 3 years of direct Project Management experience
• Working knowledge of building sciences in residential, multi-family, and commercial buildings, energy auditing, energy efficiency and energy management practices gained through training and field experience.
• Proficient computing skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Additional Desired Qualifications:
• Building Performance Institute Proctor certification
• Additional BPI certification(s) such as Multifamily, Heating, Envelope or others
• Additional professional certification(s): LEED AP, NABCEP, etc.
• General Contractors License
• Green Building design, construction and maintenance knowledge
• Real estate, construction management, or general contracting experience
• Familiarity with Energy Management Systems
• Understanding of renewable energy systems design and installation
• Familiarity with water efficiency measures and current techniques
• Multi-lingual - for example, two or more of the following languages - Spanish, English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Russian, Tagalog, or others.

Compensation
The total compensation range for this exempt position is $75,000 to $83,000. Benefits:
Ecology Action offers a generous benefit package that includes a cafeteria plan with
medical, dental, and flexible spending benefits, a 401k-retirement plan with 4%
employer match, and group life insurance.

Driving an insured personal vehicle on company business is required, and reimbursement is provided at the current IRS mileage rate. This EUC program is funded through March 2012 only. The goal is to secure on-going funding and continue the program beyond March 2012. To the extent that we are successful in achieving this, the role could continue.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to drive a vehicle.

Work Environment
Generally, the work environment is an office setting at Ecology Action's office in Santa Cruz, CA., if the employee is based in Santa Cruz. If the employee is based elsewhere in the state, the work environment will be a home office. This position requires extensive travel (50% to 70%) for face-to-face meetings throughout the state.
