Job Description: 

The Galveston Bay Foundation (GBF) was founded in 1987 as a nonprofit organization to preserve, protect and
enhance Galveston Bay, one of the world's most productive estuaries. Its balanced programs in advocacy,
conservation, education, and research strive to ensure that Galveston Bay remains a beautiful and productive
place for generations to come. The Foundation's annual budget typically runs at approximately $2 million, but
varies depending on the projects undertaken in any given year.
Position Title: Director of Development
Reports to: President and CEO
Summary: Responsible for all aspects of fundraising and public relations for Galveston Bay Foundation. Works
closely with the CEO and members of the Board of Directors in creating and implementing development goals
and plans, and is responsible for the external communications of GBF. Maintains a visible presence in the
philanthropic, conservation, and nonprofit communities.
Specific Duties:
• Identify, cultivate and communicate with donors; keep them informed on a regular basis of GBF's work and
the impact of their contributions on the life of the organization
• Secure financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporations
• Develop and implement fundraising plans, in consultation with the CEO
• Oversee, supervise, and provide administrative support for all fundraising events
• Develop and implement PR/marketing plans, in consultation with CEO and other staff as required (for
example, annual report)
• Develop agenda and materials for all fundraising, marketing, and special events committees; attend these
meetings and manage follow-up activities with volunteers
• Assist in the recruitment and training of fundraising volunteers
• Oversee all donor acknowledgments
• Produce all fundraising reports and maintain donor records
• Participate in conferences and staff meetings
• Communicate directly with board members and fundraising volunteers for development support needs
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 4-5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising
• Demonstrated success in dealing with and managing a variety of people, ideas, and situations
• Exceptional communication and writing skills
• Must work well in a team-oriented environment
• Self-starter with knowledge of Houston community and a passion for conservation
• Computer skills needed include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and database usage
The Galveston Bay Foundation office is located in Webster, TX, in the Clear Lake area of Houston,
approximately twenty-five minutes south of downtown Houston.
