The position is based in Arizona, Phoenix-area preferred; and will require significant travel in central Arizona as well as occasional travel out-of-state. This position is a grant-funded position; funding for two years has been secured, continued employment beyond two years is contingent upon additional funding and need.

Innovate ways to engage wilderness supporters in campaign efforts
Assist with logistics of keeping a multi-partner coalition effort functioning smoothly (this will include meeting and field trip preparations)
Conduct field assessments as needed to support proposal decision-making (for example, mapping roads on-the-ground, photo-documenting proposal areas or presence/absence of impacts, etcetera)
Attend public events or private meetings to represent The Wilderness Society and/or the coalition. Some participation in events and meetings may be passive (observing and collecting information) and others active (presenting prepared comments or statements)
Other special projects as assigned
Direct Outreach and Mobilization of Constituencies for Wilderness and Other Protective Designations:

Create action alerts and other campaign-to-supporters materials (electronic, print and other)
Conduct outreach at events to directly recruit wilderness supporters and inform them about the proposal, The Wilderness Society, and coalition partners
Plan and execute public events for raising awareness of the areas and campaign
Arrange and/or conduct Wilderness presentations with interested parties
Engage directly with solar energy companies, other renewable energy projects, and relevant agency personnel on projects relevant to the campaign areas; this will involve working closely with TWS colleagues in the BLM Action Center
Work closely with coalition partners and TWS colleagues to support TWS comments on area management plans
Qualifications:

Strong writing skills and an ability to take edits
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Ability and creativity to work independently and without day-to-day supervision
Proficient computer skills; knowledge and experience with word processing, presentation applications (for example, PowerPoint), and email required. Knowledge and experience with HTML, image-editing applications (for example, Photoshop), and GIS applications is a plus
Ability and willingness to travel within central Arizona on a regular basis as well as willingness to work nights and weekends as needed
High comfort level and professionalism when working with people who have different policy priorities or personal opinions
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Public speaking skills and experience is a plus
Knowledge of Arizona politics, landscapes and communities is a plus
