Job Description: 

The Philanthropy Associate will provide fundraising, organizational, and administrative support to the West Division Director of Philanthropy and the West Division Philanthropy Program. Tasks will include but are not limited to maintaining records and running reports in our donor database; reviewing and tracking division-specific philanthropy reports; drafting, editing and finalizing documents; advancing West Division philanthropy grant approvals and donor gift forecasting processes; and providing administrative support to the director and excellent customer service to the philanthropy team. The successful candidate must have proficiency with databases and spreadsheet applications, excellent communications and writing skills, and interest in the development field. The Philanthropy Associate position is based in Seattle and interacts with philanthropy colleagues across the country.

Responsibilities:

Supports West Division Director of Philanthropy and (remotely) Hawaii Director of Philanthropy with their donor work, including maintaining donor database records, running and analyzing reports, drafting visits reports, and drafting basic donor engagement strategies.
Processes gifts and grants using database system and following TPL's policies and procedures.
Serves as point of contact for donor gift forecasting reports (Cash Quality Reports) for the West Division.
Tracks and reviews West Division philanthropy forecasts, budgets, and reports.
Drafts, edits, and proofreads documents; writes gift acknowledgement notes.
For West Division Director of Philanthropy, schedules internal and external meetings and conference calls, plans logistics for meetings, makes travel arrangements, maintains departmental files, prepares time sheets and expense reports, and provides other standard administrative and organizational function as required or assigned by supervisor.
On occasion, provides assistance to philanthropy staff with donor events such as small receptions, luncheons, and dinners including site logistics, invitations, and communication.
Qualifications:

High school diploma required; Bachelors degree or equivalent experience preferred.
Minimum two years support experience. Experience with philanthropy a plus.
Superior written and oral communication skills; excellent organizational skills.
Computer proficiency including fluency with the various Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). Proficiency with complex databases or donor management software (e.g. Raiser's Edge) a plus.
Ability to use good judgment, take initiative, and make recommendations in resolving problems and provide guidance to other departments and field offices.
Ability to represent The Trust for Public Land to the general public.
Knowledge of conservation and environmental issues a plus.
Adherence to TPL's Principles and Practice for Fundraisers and the AFP Code of Ethics.
