The Buildings Engineering Practice Area specializes in the design and development processes unique to buildings. For both public and private sector clients, we provide diverse capabilities covering each of the major engineering disciplines – mechanical, electrical and structural. With respect to the Electrical Engineering discipline, beyond simply meeting our client’s current electrical system requirements in their facilities, we strive to formulate new strategies to conserve energy, while creating comfortable interiors and reducing operational costs.

 

The Buildings Engineering group in Victoria has 35 employees practicing structural, mechanical and electrical engineering.  We currently have an opening for an Electrical Discipline Lead

Responsibilities:

 

This is a great opportunity to broaden your existing technical expertise in electrical design solutions, to utilize your interpersonal and managerial skills to provide support, direction and collaboration with the other discipline teams and utilize your leadership and coaching abilities to facilitate the career development of the electrical staff.  Key to this role is the representation and direction of Electrical Discipline specific issues such as vendor interface, technical matters, strategic hiring, training and development.

 

The incumbent will have strong knowledge of electrical design for multi-disciplined building projects from proposal through construction and beyond and will be involved in the design and review of complex and interesting projects including Public-Private-Partnerships (P3s), new hospitals and airports, and major civil infrastructure projects.  This position will also represent the group in situations such as major project proposal presentations, conferences and education sessions, code and standards committees, and to other outside parties such as vendors, suppliers, contractors, and prospective employees.

Qualifications:

 

 

Our work encompasses a wide variety of market segments and project sizes from small commercial renovations to large institutional, transportation and municipal infrastructure projects.  The successful incumbent should have the following qualifications and background:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, or Building Technology related Technical Diploma
  • At least 12 years of progressively responsible electrical experience in consulting engineering in the design of electrical systems , including extensive experience in buildings, culminating in a recognizable level of expertise 
  • Experience at a supervisory or management level as it relates to personnel and resources management; Interest and ability to supervise, mentor and assist in the career development of the electrical staff
  • Significant knowledge of Codes and Standards for BC electrical building design would be highly desirable 
  • Excellent communication skills (interpersonal, written and presentation)
  • LEED Accredited Professional and RCDD certification are assets
  • Professional Engineer designation in BC an asset
