Our Environmental Management group is dedicated to managing environmental issues professionally and proactively. Our staff of professionals includes specialists in marine biology, wetland science, wildlife biology, soil science, fisheries biology, botany, hydrogeology, hydrology, forestry, habitat and ecosystem restoration, permitting, GIS, and Information Management. We help our clients to identify and respond to opportunities and threats within constantly changing regulatory and corporate environments, through active engagement with the public, stakeholder groups, and governmental regulators.  

 

We are seeking an exceptionally talented and motivated Water Resources Engineer or Scientist with a keen interest in wetland and stream restoration to join a multi-disciplinary Environmental Management Team in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.  This position offers the opportunity to work closely with experts in the fields of ecological restoration, wetland and aquatic science, land development, environmental remediation, geotechnical engineering and transportation to deliver innovative and effective solutions to our clients’ diverse problems. 

Responsibilities:

 

 

As the successful candidate, you will be joining a large and skilled team of water resource engineers in our offices across Eastern Canada, and will have the opportunity for leadership and growth with a diverse and challenging water resources workload.  As Senior Water Resources Engineer or Scientist you will use your technical abilities to plan and carry out water resources projects in a dynamic Environmental Management Team with a diversity of project needs.  You will use your communication skills to mentor junior and intermediate team members, explain complex issues, and develop new clients and assignments.  Other responsibilities include: 

  • Undertaking the detailed studies, modeling and design tasks associated with wetland and stream restoration, drainage or stormwater management, and erosion and sediment control projects;
  • Coordinating with project managers, design engineers, technical staff and/or multidisciplinary team members to ensure that the projects’ needs are met in a timely and effective manner;
  • Preparing proposals for new projects;
  • Managing project budgets, staff allocation and preparing and reviewing invoices prior to issuance;
  • Meeting with agency and municipal officials with respect to project-specific stream and wetland restoration issues, stormwater management issues or other relevant inquiries from external bodies;
  • Writing reports and design briefs to document analyses;
  • Taking responsibility for the quality of your written, technical and graphic work; and Coordinating design drawings. .
Qualifications:

As the successful candidate, you will possess the following qualifications:

  • Degree in engineering, geosciences, environmental science or natural science.
  • Minimum 8 years professional experience in environmental hydrology, wetland and watercourse restoration, watershed level hydrology analyses, river hydraulics,  erosion prevention/sediment control planning, and water management, or related fields. 
  • Experience in business development, project management, and client liaison/ management,
  • Excellent team-building and management capabilities, solid oral and written communication skills are desired.
  • Consulting experience would be considered an asset. 
  • Good working knowledge of environmental legislation under Nova Scotia Environment would be considered an asset
  • Familiarity with local practice and markets would be considered an asset.
  • Professional registration strongly preferred
