Job Description: 

The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy is seeking an experienced communications professional. The Director of Communication will oversee public relations and marketing activities including print, electronic and web communications, publications production, media relations, advertising and social media activities for the purpose of enhancing the Conservancy's local, regional, and national identity.
This position is based in Pittsburgh and reports to the Vice President, Institutional Advancement. The ideal candidate needs to understand and support the communication needs of a multi-faceted organization. He/she will be expected to be a hands-on professional who can work closely with staff organization-wide in a positive and productive manner and will lead by his or her own first-class example.
The director will coordinate the overall communications outreach of the organization to its donors, constituents and the public and to representatives of the local, state and national media. This person will be the organization's chief writer, editor and media relations contact and will be an innovator in developing creative ideas. He/she will be the organization-wide defender of institutional graphics, brand identity and editorial standards. This high-energy generalist should be strong in the basics of communications and marketing strategy, with formal training and experience in public relations and/or marketing. He/she will need to exhibit the highest in professional standards of writing, editing and design. He/she should have the mature judgment to handle sensitive messages and issues.
Qualifications: Academic and professional experience and training, including a bachelor's degree (graduate degree preferred) and 5-7 years of hand-on, professional experience in directing marketing, communications, public relations, and print media/publications. Successful candidate must have superb verbal, written and editing skills, a creative mind and the ability to lead the organization in articulating its mission. Nonprofit experience, particularly for an environmental/conservation organization, is preferred. Position provides an excellent salary and benefits package.
