Job Description: 

Six Rivers Regional Land Conservancy is a 16-year-old nonprofit land trust serving
Oakland, Macomb, Lapeer and Genesee Counties in southeast Michigan. The mission
of Six Rivers is: "We conserve, sustain and connect natural areas, lands and waters that
make the places we live special." Six Rivers currently conserves over 1,100 acres
through nature preserves, conservation easements and stewardship agreements.
Six Rivers is seeking an individual to serve as the next Executive Director of our
organization. The Executive Director will be the primary representative of Six Rivers to
our local, regional and national partners, including other local and regional land trusts -
continuing our excellence in implementation of collaborative and innovative land
conservation projects. The Executive Director will work closely with Six Rivers' Board of
Trustees to implement a new Strategic Plan to further the sustainability of the
organization and plan for the protection of priority conservation sites. The Executive
Director will lead the organization in cultivating relationships with key funders and
supporting the Board of Trustees in their fundraising efforts.
Specific Job Responsibilities
 Manage the daily operations of Six Rivers, including overseeing a staff consisting
of a full-time Stewardship Director, a Land Protection Specialist, and a
Communications and Outreach Intern, providing overall direction within the
guidelines set up by the Board of Trustees
 Develop an annual strategic plan, revenue plan, and budget
 Plan, communicate, and manage major events for the organization
 Assist the Board of Trustees to establish and modify long-term goals and policies
and provide oversight to ensure the organization is managed in a manner
consistent with its mission and financial resources
 In conjunction with the Board of Trustees, create and implement an annual
Conservation Priorities work plan based on the Strategic Conservation Plan and
manage regional conservation partnerships, contracts with outside specialists, and
consultation with legal counsel.
 In cooperation with Finance Committee, manage the finances and assets of Six
Rivers in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and
Board-established policy and procedures, providing regular updates and
information to the Finance Committee, Board and accounting firm, oversee annual
audit/financial review, and handle all organizational tax obligations. 2010 SRRLC ED Job Description
 Develop and maintain relationships with major contributors, including foundations,
corporations, and individual major donors. Develop messages, produce collateral
materials, and facilitate asks, for both seasonal appeals and capital campaigns.
 Write and administer grants in line with strategic goals and the organizational
workplan
 Manage the Six Rivers brand and develop and implement an annual marketing
plan, including advertising, direct marketing, web, partnerships, and public
relations.
 Build strategic relationships with collaborative partners, such as county planning
officials, watershed planning groups/councils, and other environmental
organizations.
 ,
Background and Qualifications
 Bachelor's degree in biology, botany, conservation, land use planning, natural
resources, business, outdoor education, environmental education, or
communications. Master's degree a plus; JD also considered.
 5 years experience in a related nonprofit or for-profit environmental management
position
 Working knowledge of the theories, practices, principles and techniques of land
trusts, conservation and natural areas stewardship
 Experience with the design, implementation and management of multiple projects
and larger collaborative, grant-funded projects
 Strong communication, writing and presentation skills and the ability to interact
comfortably with a wide range of individuals and groups
 Computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office, QuickBooks Pro,
databases, and social media platforms.
 Driver's license and willingness to travel to remote sites for meetings, conferences
and field visits; physical ability to maneuver visits to sites with uneven terrain in
sometimes inclement weather
Salary
This is a full-time position. The salary and benefits will be commensurate with
experience and competitive for similar positions in the region.
