Job Description: 

The Philanthropy Manager is responsible for planning and implementing strategies to achieve annual fund raising goals from foundations and corporations in Washington, and implements communication, cultivation and stewardship activities for individual donors and prospects. The Philanthropy Manager reports to the Washington Director of Philanthropy.

Responsibilities:

* 40% Plans, implements, and coordinates fundraising activity for foundation and corporate donors. Includes: identifying, cultivating, and soliciting foundation and corporate prospects: writing grant proposals, reports, and other fund raising materials as needed. Involves senior management and project staff as needed; stays updated on project efforts; and responds to program and project fund raising opportunities. Tracks and meets deadlines, tracks grant payments and expenditures, and maintains records of activity with foundations and corporations in TPL's database.
* 30% Assists the Director of Philanthropy in developing cultivation plans and strategies for mid to major individual donor relationships. Creates customized cultivation materials including letters, proposals, e-mail updates and other communications. Prepares and personalizes gift acknowledgments for major donors.
* 20% Plans and implements a regular series of donor communication for donors, including broadcast e-mail updates ("TPL Near You"), locally based text for TPL's annual giving program, website updates, success stories, annual project postcard series and other materials.
* 10% Supports other philanthropy-related activity such as special events, as needed.

Experience, Education and Skills Required:

* 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit fund raising, with emphasis on written communication.
* Substantial experience in writing grant proposals, letters, reports and other fund raising materials.
* Proven ability to present persuasive, engaging arguments for support.
* Experience interacting with individual donors and fund raising volunteers.
* Demonstrated experience in meeting fund raised revenue goals.
* Demonstrated experience and proficiency using fundraising database programs, MS Office programs.
* Ability to use good judgment, take initiative and make recommendations.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills and attention to detail.
* Bachelor's degree.

Experience, Education and Skills Preferred:

* Page Layout, Digital Image, E-mail, Social Networking.
* Commitment to land conservation or environmental causes.
