Earthwatch supports about 60 projects across nearly 40 countries, and draws $20 million in annual revenues, with more than 85% of its budget supporting science research and engagement, and going towards programmatic support. Since 1971 Earthwatch has inspired 93,000 volunteers to join vital conservation research projects in the field. Earthwatch supports research projects in four key areas: Ecosystem services, climate change, oceans, and cultural heritage.

THE OPPORTUNITY The Donor Relations Manager helps ensure optimal constituent relations, increased awareness of organization resources, and continued expansion of its donor base.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Assist senior development staff in providing on-going informal and formal stewardship activities to engage and inform its constituents in a timely manner. * Support the public program by providing alumni and volunteer appreciation communications that encourage a connection to the organization. * Coordinate and manage the development and production of communications and stewardship materials for all development initiatives. In this capacity, the incumbent works closely with development staff and other departments to develop communications materials, web content, stewardship materials, proposals, and presentation materials to insure the effective pursuit of funding. These also include cultivation, solicitation and acknowledgment letters, as appropriate. * Analyze and understand a variety of external audiences including Boards, volunteers, major donors and prospects, corporations and foundations and the general public as well as internal constituencies. * Coordinate development communications activities with the Marketing staff as required. * Interview key program staff and understand translation of institution-wide development priorities. * Oversee production from draft through final product; manage elements including: article/topic selection, research, contract writing/editing, and design. * Participate in working groups to plan, coordinate and execute original communications products and publications related to development events and programs. * Develop content for information brochures; review and edit drafts of correspondence, and reports; draft articles and reports on the status of major initiatives for distribution to donors, prospects, the general public, and special interest groups. * Edit and prepare manuscripts on two levels: 1. copy editing (employing skills that assure consistency and accuracy within a manuscript regarding grammar, punctuation, syntax, and acceptable institution style); and 2. substantive editing, requiring critical sense and intuitive evaluation of factual accuracy and consistency of information--chronology of events, overall consistency of subject matter; verification of facts, rearrangement or deletion of material, analysis of data, and evaluation of documentation as to accuracy and thoroughness. * Must exercise judgment on a wide range of issues in written and verbal expression, style, tone, length, organization, etc. because much of the work performed/generated represents the official positions of the fundraising areas. * Meet tight deadlines to support projects as required. * Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's Degree in related area. * Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of oral and written communications and interpersonal relations skills. * Skills in social media preferred. * Knowledge of fund-raising, with preference to 1-3 years experience in a non-profit setting. * Basic skills in proposal and publications development with writing and editing experience preferable for a non-profit organization. * Skill in writing for a variety of audiences. Ability to write/edit in a variety of writing styles, ability to draft materials on a wide range of topics. Strong editing and proofreading skills. * The ability to translate complex technical language and ideas into language easily comprehensible to non-specialists. * Skill in interviewing a variety of people and gathering and synthesizing information from many sources. * Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software, internet based applications, and computer equipment. * High energy, goal oriented, creative and collegial. Sense of humor is key. * Strong interest in environmental conservation issues.
