Job Description: 

The Blue Green Alliance Foundation (BGAF) is a nonprofit, 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to research and education about job-creating solutions to global warming and other environmental challenges. BGAF partners with the United Steelworkers, Sierra Club, Communications Workers of America, Natural Resources Defense Council, Service Employees International Union, Laborers' International Union of North America, Utility Workers Union of America, American Federation of Teachers, Amalgamated Transit Union, and the Sheet Metal Workers' International Association.

BGAF formed a partnership with various job training organizations known as the Minnesota Green Partnership of Workforce and Employer Resources (GreenPOWER). The GreenPOWER partnership has been awarded a U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) grant to train manufacturing workers to fill the good, green jobs being created in the clean energy economy. The program will match workers with training opportunities as well as work with the partners to develop curriculum for green manufacturing.

Job Summary

BGAF seeks a Communications Associate to provide communications support to the GreenPOWER training program. Responsibilities will include:

* Drafting written materials, including website content, press advisories and releases, and program materials, as well as maintenance of online social networking tools;
* Execute the following media outreach activities:
o media monitoring and response, including maintenance of press list/database;
o scheduling media interviews and appearances for spokespeople;
o recruiting, interviewing and preparing green worker spokespeople to highlight the program's successes;
o organizing earned media events and interviews;
o aiding in organizing business and worker outreach events for the program;
o forming and implementing a paid media plan;
o fielding state and local media requests;
o traveling to GreenPOWER locations to plan and implement events;
o collecting collateral for the program, including pictures and other materials; and
o coordinating press conferences and other media events to highlight the on-going work of GreenPOWER.

SUGGESTED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS FOR CANDIDATES:
Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Political Science, related field or significant work experience in those areas. Minimum two years of press/communications experience required, non-profit experience a plus. Knowledge of economic, job training and environmental issues, as well as experience in the labor or environmental movements, is preferred.

In addition, we are looking for someone who has excellent oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, a good sense of humor, strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, as well as proficiency with online organizing tools and website maintenance.

Salary: Commensurate with experience
