Job Description: 

The Director, Knowledge Management is responsible for developing and implementing a knowledge sharing strategy that ensures that ISC's intellectual capital is captured, utilized and communicated effectively both within the organization and among stakeholders. The Director promotes learning and sharing across projects, programs, functional units and offices and leverages opportunities for integration, collaboration, and innovation throughout ISC. The Director develops and implements a data management plan to support knowledge capture, use, and dissemination through multiple channels.
Organization Description

ISC is an independent non-profit organization that gives passionate, committed people the tools, skills, and resources they need to make their communities better places to live. Our current areas of programmatic growth include strengthening democratic institutions and citizenship in transition countries; helping communities in the US and China become more resource efficient and transition to a low-carbon economy; and supporting sustainable community development - particularly in areas recovering from natural disasters or vulnerable to climate disruption. With our headquarters in Montpelier, Vermont, and offices in China, Macedonia, Serbia, Kosovo, the Caribbean and Washington, DC, ISC has an international staff of approximately 90 and an annual budget of approximately $14M. Since our founding in 1991 by former Vermont Governor Madeleine M. Kunin, ISC has led transformative community-driven projects in 23 countries across the globe.
Responsibilities

* Provide conceptual leadership in the development of a comprehensive knowledge management and information-sharing system across ISC which advances organizational excellence.
* Drive the process for establishing this system, including developing a strategy that identifies priorities, resolves duplications and inefficiencies, and improves staff ability to use knowledge powerfully in their day-to-day work.
* Enable geographically distributed colleagues to collaborate effectively on shared activities in real time, supporting their ability to create and share tools, best practices, and lessons learned.
* Champion a knowledge sharing culture and the use of common frameworks and tools across ISC.
* Address priority areas identified in a recent Knowledge Management Review, including:
­ - a consistent CRM system across ISC
­ - a full-featured document and media repository
­ - a useful-to-all collaborative environment
­ - an easy-to-use virtual meeting tool
* Develop information architecture which can be applied globally, in all of ISC's offices, across various technology platforms (i.e., naming conventions, file management structures, templates.)
* Develop new media strategy for dissemination of knowledge via wikis, websites, blogs, videos, audio, podcasts, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, etc.
* Develop an organizational "user guide" to help staff (new and old) understand when and how to use specific knowledge management tools and whom to turn to for support.
Qualifications

o Bachelor's or higher degree.
o 7-10 years experience with knowledge management tools, systems and techniques, preferably in support of international development programming and project management.
Ability to actively listen, communicate (verbal and written) and build consensus in a diverse global environment with various levels of leadership.
o Experience designing, implementing, and securing wide-spread buy-in for and participation in organizational systems.
o Knowledge of SharePoint, Drupal, Joomla, Plone& MOSS architecture a plus.
o Experience with Web 2.0 technologies and social media.
o Superior written and verbal communication skills.
o Superior analytical and problem solving capabilities. Investigative nature.
o Coaching and/or training experience.
