JOB SUMMARY: The Deputy Director of Development is responsible for coordinating and implementing foundation and government grant fundraising strategies to advance the objectives of the organization's conservation campaigns. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a talented, high energy team of professionals who are interested in making a difference in the field of conservation. The Deputy Director reports to the Senior Director of Development for Foundation Relations and Government Grants.

DUTIES AND RESPOSIBILITIES:

* Work with a team of development professionals to coordinate strategy, set goals, and prioritize efforts for foundation and government grant fundraising.
* Assist in developing and implementing solicitation strategies.
* Collaborate with program staff to develop and submit compelling letters of inquiry and proposals to foundations and government grant prospects, and work with appropriate staff to develop narrative reports and briefings on existing and proposed funders.
* Work with conservation and finance staff to produce financial reports for foundations.
* Participate in conservation program strategy sessions regarding existing or prospective funders, review conservation program materials and otherwise stay current on conservation program developments as needed to develop effective proposals and reports.
* Help oversee the research of and help identify foundation and government grant prospects to match program needs.
* Oversee maintenance of a schedule of proposal due dates and reporting requirements as part of a tracking system and ensure that staff members are aware of and meet their deadlines.
* Supervise daily activities of the Development Assistant.
* Work with Senior Director of Development to track foundation and government grant revenue information.
* Perform other administrative and substantive duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor's degree and at least five years of foundation or government grant fundraising and grant writing experience, or equivalent background.
* Ability to work collaboratively in promoting the goals and objectives of the organization.
* Superior written and verbal communication skills and ability to work with budget data.
* Highly organized and able to meet deadlines.
* Ability to perform multiple tasks effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Ability to work effectively with a range of personalities and working styles, and with people at all levels of the organization, including staff, board, foundation officers, and donors.
* Experience using Windows software, including Word and Excel, and database programs.
* Prefer candidate with some knowledge of and interest in conservation issues.
