Job Description: 

This is a full-time position at Headlands Institute, a campus of NatureBridge, located on the shores of the Pacific Ocean in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Headlands Institute's programs inspire a personal connection to the natural world and motivate students to become engaged citizens who address environmental issues that impact their local communities.

NatureBridge is the largest residential educational partner of the National Park Service currently operating four environmental education campuses: Olympic Park Institute in Olympic National Park in Washington state, Headlands Institute in Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Santa Monica Mountains Institute in Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area and Yosemite Institute in Yosemite National Park. Each year, NatureBridge helps more than 40,000 people from ethnically and economically diverse backgrounds find a personal connection to nature through field science, youth leadership, and teacher training programs.

Summary
Headlands Institute seeks a detail-oriented self-starter to oversee the sales and marketing of field science, summer day camp, and conference center programs, totaling over 20,000 participants and in excess of $3.5 million in annual sales. The successful candidate will have an entrepreneurial approach and be able to work across the organization. This position supervises a two-member sales and marketing team and provides strategic leadership for the organization as part of the Headlands Leadership Team. The position is available due to an internal promotion.

This position reports to the Institute Director and works closely with the Headlands operations team to ensure seamless logistical support and excellent customer service to all clients. The Director of Sales and Marketing collaborates with staff members from other NatureBridge campuses and communications staff at the national office to develop NatureBridge-wide strategies and best practices in marketing.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Sales

* Market, promote and sell all Headlands Institute programs that comprise an annual sales budget of over $3.5 million
* Meet organizational sales revenue targets and marketing expense budgets
* Manage lead tracking through administration of CRM application (salesforce.com)
* Generate monthly revenue reports, including actual sales and projected sales

Marketing

* Lead, manage and oversee all sales and marketing activity, and relationships with customers
* Produce Headlands annual sales and marketing plan for field science education, conference, and summer camp, including quarterly updates
* Work with creative services staff at the NatureBridge national office to develop, improve and distribute all marketing, sales and information materials that convey a professional, first-rate image of the NatureBridge brand
* Cultivate local and regional customers, and develop prospective customer relationships with teachers, parents, school administrators and business meeting clients
* Staff exhibits at conventions as needed
* Develop and update the Headlands Institute section of the NatureBridge website (headlandsinstitute.org)
* Serve as the primary point of contact for Headlands Institute PR efforts, work with national office communications staff to provide support for PR activities as needed.

Leadership and Strategy

* Serve as member of Headlands Institute Leadership Team
* Supervise two full time employees
* Work with other NatureBridge campuses as part of the sales and marketing working group to develop Naturebridge-wide strategies and best practices in marketing
* Recommend annual price adjustments and revenue targets, and play an active role in developing the organization's annual operating budget
* Manage and track marketing budget
* Any other duties as assigned by supervisor

Experience and Qualities We Seek
The ideal candidate can demonstrate the following:

* Bachelors degree or equivalent experience with at least four years of applicable industry experience
* Well-organized and self-directed with knowledge in all areas of sales and marketing
* Experience working with K-12 education and/or business meeting sales
* Exceptional oral communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate NatureBridge's vision, competitive advantage and strategies
* Strategic planner with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong sales and marketing focus
* Thorough, decisive and detail oriented with proven success in meeting and exceeding sales goals
* Experience working creatively with limited resources to achieve maximum impact
* Effectively manage employees with diverse skill sets and backgrounds in a close community environment
* Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex legal and financial documents
* Ability to respond effectively to emergencies and crisis situations
* Experience with Filemaker, Salesforce.com, and website administration

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must occasionally hike 1-3 miles. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
