Responsibilities:

General Direction & Strategy

  • Plan and execute, with minimal professional guidance, complex semi-technical field assignments involving the installation, modification, test, inspection or repair of Automation products and equipment. Coordinate work with other groups to ensure meeting commitments typically on remotely operated maintenance and testing equipment. Recommend measures to improve operations and customer service.
  • Follow instructions and guidance from Plant Services Management or Project Management team.

Responsibility

  • Perform complex field service operations that typically present unusual problems requiring strong technical skills.
  • Provide leadership in the assembly and operation of Instrumentation & Controls equipment. Conduct tests or troubleshoot requiring selection and adaptation or modification of equipment and procedures. Record, compile and reduce data for analysis and assist in related assessment and preparation of reports.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment, applying own knowledge and experience. Recommend changes such as new equipment or modified procedures to improve performance and customer satisfaction. Conduct detailed inventories and inspections to determine necessary maintenance and repairs, and assist in determining resource requirements.
  • Lead the performance of assigned field services projects such as non-destructive examinations, analysis, and Project execution. May be responsible for direction, analysis and reports involving complex test projects.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating team efforts. Guide less experienced technicians and instruct them in proper and safe operation of equipment. Often work non standard schedules at field locations with exposure to varying environmental conditions.
  • Actively participate in regional on call rotation to support customer base.  Be accessible for 24 hours period during on call duties.  Respond to all calls and escalate to Supervisor or Plant Services Manager as required.
  • Support sales efforts within group and region.
  • Assist in finding new Field Service sales opportunities.  Adhering published pricing rates and seek approval for any discounts required.
  • Maintain 85% Billable Efficiency Overall on an annual basis. Escalate to Team Leader as necessary.
  • Adhere to all Stantec HR Policies and Service Business Procedures.
  • Participate in company provided Formal and Informal Training courses.
  • Complete Service Reports, Labor Entry and Expenses on a weekly basis.

 

COMPLEXITY OF TASKS:

  • Requires thorough understanding of Automation products and equipment, engineering concepts and practices. Requires ability to select most effective approaches and adapting standard practices and procedures to resolve complex semi-technical problems. Requires strong communications skills and ability to lead less experienced staff. Decisions and actions are based on individual knowledge and experience and may affect quality, delay schedules and result in rework as assignments are not subject to close scrutiny. Highly complex problems are referred to engineers or supervisor.
  • PLC Programming on various tasks using accepted industry standards and practices for configuration services.  Performing regular backups, following project folder set up and administration, follow software change control practices and procedures.


Qualifications:

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's Degree in engineering or related field.  Or Technical certification from U.S. Military with honorable discharge.  Plus 5 to 9 years of experience or a special combination of education and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments in the Instrumentation & Controls field.
  • Prior Power Plant systems and equipment knowledge and experience required.
  • Familiar with Instrumentation and process field devices used for monitoring and control of power plant systems is required.
  • Prior PLC Training and Certification on Allen Bradley and / or GE Fanuc product lines are required.
  • Experience or prior employment as Field Service Technician, Programmer or Authorized Systems Integrator for PLC’s is a plus on one of the major lines – Allen Bradley, GE Fanuc, Modicon.
