FLSA: Part-time, nonexempt, hourly position approximately 20-30 hrs/week
Supervised by: Executive Director (ED)
Coordinates with: volunteers, administrators and other department leaders
Location: New Hope, MN

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Represent the International Wolf Center in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current members, donors, visitors, vendors and the communities we serve.
Interacts effectively with a diverse group of staff, interns, volunteers and other customers of our services.
Learn and use operating practices of the International Wolf Center.
Uphold the organizational mission statement.
Adhere to organizational standards of objectivity and scientific accuracy in all educational activities.
Handle confidential information with tact and discretion.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Development Associate will assist in the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and management of foundations, businesses, major gift and individual member prospects. The candidate will work closely with the ED to ensure earned and contributed income streams. He/she will be responsible for tracking data and fulfilling all reporting duties to the organization and funding sources, including grants. Adhering to a budget and assisting in meeting fundraising goals are crucial components of this position.

Foundations, grants, corporate and business sponsorships (40%)
Research, cultivate and manage a portfolio of all prospects.
Assist in sustaining the organization through funding from private and public foundation, federal, state and local grants.
Support building corporate cause-related partnerships, as possible.
Assist in the development and implementation of comprehensive annual and long-range fundraising strategies and goals, as appropriate.
Work with all staff to identify needs for new funding.
Maintain foundation databases and quality control; ensure foundation information is accurately entered; generate appropriate reports and queries when necessary; provide data for constituent records via contact action reports.
Major gifts including planned giving (40%)
Assist in the planning and implementation of a comprehensive cultivation program for major gift and planned giving prospects potentially including direct personal contact and ongoing communications.
Provide appropriate level of donor and cultivation services to strengthen relationships and identify opportunities for support.
Cultivate in-kind services.
Ongoing annual support (15%)
Assist Membership Associate with the management of ongoing member annual support, including donation direct mail and electronic solicitations, as appropriate.
Expand matching gifts, royalties and product fundraising, as possible.
Manage Animal Charities support and research and expand or connection to similar ongoing charities.
Research important charity review and evaluation organizations such as Guidestar, Better Business Bureau and implement appropriate connections.
Develop and coordinate new and ongoing fundraising events.
Administrative Responsibilities (5%):
Manage portions of the development budget including reducing costs.
Support team building and establish good communication with supervisor and other employees.
Assist ED in staffing activities of board Development Committee.
Other responsibilities as requested by the ED.
QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelor's degree in liberal arts and/or marketing, business, communications or equivalent experience is required.
Demonstrated experience in successfully assisting in the development and implementation of fundraising strategies including major gift solicitations, annual giving campaigns, foundation and corporate requests and meeting fundraising goals.
Demonstrated excellent writing skills.
Demonstrated skills in database management and quality control; ensure donor information is accurately entered; generate appropriate reports and queries when necessary; provide data for constituent records via contact action reports.
Ability to manage simultaneous, multiple projects, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines; function productively in a fast-paced high-pressure environment, work independently and accept direction.
Computer literate: knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and database management experience required.
Knowledge of web, social media and e-fundraising a plus
Familiarity with the Twin Cities' donor community and individual, state and national foundations a plus.
ABILITIES AND WORKING CONDITIIONS
This position is subject to a variable work schedule based on development department needs. The employee may make overnight trips to the Ely, MN office. Employee must be able to sit (60% time), stand, walk, lift/carry up to 30 lbs., operate a motor vehicle and communicate fluently in English.

The International Wolf Center's mission is to advance the survival of wolf populations around the world by teaching about wolves, their relationship to wildlands, and the human role in their future. The world famous education interpretive building in Ely, Minnesota features daily presentations and field trips, an award winning museum exhibit and a pack of ambassador wolves living in their wooded territory. The Minneapolis office manages fundraising, membership, communications and organizational administration.
