Job Description: 

Qualified candidates will have knowledge and experiences in the field(s) of restoration ecology, botany, wildlife biology, natural resource management, GIS and/or a similar field. Candidates should also have on-the-ground experience with volunteer- or community-based restoration programs, as well as excellent adaptive management and relationship/partnership building skills. The candidate must also have experience in raising programmatic funds, managing budgets and reporting to funding agencies.

Background:
Cascade Land Conservancy (CLC) is a leading edge regional nonprofit land conservation organization, with offices in Pierce, King, Mason, Snohomish and Kittitas counties in Washington State. It also engages in estuary and near shore conservation and stewardship in other coastal counties. Summary of Position:
The Cedar River Restoration Coordinator will work with Seattle Public Utilities, King County, Friends of the Cedar River Watershed and other partners to restore native riparian plant communities along the lower Cedar River. Work will be completed on both publically and privately owned land and will include the following elements: survey and control of non-native plants (primarily knotweed); tracking control efforts, including creating maps using GIS software; replanting with native trees, shrubs and ground covers; leading community volunteer events associated with the restoration work; and assisting private landowners in implementing watershed BMPs such as rain gardens, riparian buffers and vegetated swales. Funding for this project is provided by the Environmental Protection Agency, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and King Conservation District.

Specific Duties:
1. Plan and implement annual invasive plant control efforts, including surveying the lower Cedar River and its tributaries; mapping existing infestations; scheduling and overseeing ground crews to complete control work; and recording and mapping control results.
2. Coordinate and implement volunteer restoration events along the lower Cedar River in direct partnership with Friends of the Cedar River Watershed.
3. Build positive relationships with private landowners residing in the lower Cedar River watershed. Work with private landowners to implement watershed BMPs, such as invasive plant control, on their property.
4. Plan and implement replanting projects after invasive control work is completed.
5. Assist in the development and distribution of programmatic outreach materials.
6. Secure additional funding (primarily through government or private grants) to extend the project past the initial 4 years of funding.
7. Oversee grant budgets and complete all grant reporting.
8. Build upon existing partnerships between organizations and agencies working within the Cedar River watershed and develop new partnerships.
9. Pursue additional related project needs as requested.


Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in environmental science, restoration ecology, botany, natural resource management or a related field and 2+ years of project coordination experience. Master's degree preferred.
2. Experience leading or coordinating community-based restoration programs.
3. Experience completing biological surveys, tracking data and creating maps using GIS.
4. Knowledge of Pacific Northwest native and non-native plants.
5. Knowledge of riparian, wetland and upland restoration techniques.
6. Knowledge of watershed best management practices.
7. Experience writing summary and/or grant reports and disseminating information for a wide variety of audiences.
8. Experience submitting grants to maintain or expand programmatic funding.
9. Experience managing budgets and tracking deliverables.
10. Demonstrates resourcefulness and strong problem-solving skills.
11. Ability to organize and manage diverse activities and set priorities.
12. Flexible and able to work well under pressure, with limited direct supervision.
13. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including successful proposal and report writing experience.
14. Ability to develop a positive working relationship with a variety of stakeholders including landowners, elected officials, community supporters, staff, and volunteers. Successful experience working independently and in groups in both office and field settings.
15. Ability to work some non-standard hours, including evenings and weekends.
16. Ability to work under physically demanding conditions, including cold and wet weather.
17. Valid, insurable drivers license/record.
