Promotes a safe and healthful working environment by monitoring and implementing safe work practices and ensuring compliance with all environmental regulations; works to reduce/mitigate industrial injuries/illnesses, property damage, workers compensation, liability losses and environmental non-compliance. Monitors and institutes compliance programs to conform to regulatory requirements.
Experience/Education Required Training & Education Requirements:
- Bachelor degree in Education, Industrial Safety/Chemical
Technology/Chemistry or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
- Industrial environment preferred.
- Requires strong working knowledge of all applicable local, state, and
federal regulations.
Experience Requirements: Five (5) years of Safety & Environmental Health experience.
Problem Resolution Opportunities: Frequent opportunity to investigate safety and environmental-related issues and make recommendations to site management to prevent future occurrences.
Communications Skills: Must have strong verbal and written communication skills. Daily contact with all levels of the organization in order to implement safety policies and provide consultation. Occasional contact with insurance loss control representatives and various state and local agencies to provide technical information.
Resource Responsibility: Administers assigned budgets to ensure expenditures are cost efficient and within budgetary limitations.
Unique skills: Ensures local compliance with all federal, state and local environmental regulations. Maintains all data as required by permits or regulations. Must have strong environmental protection ethic, with a capability to deliver environmental performance beyond compliance, and a desire to support our Sustainability efforts both corporate wide and in Long Beach. The successful candidate has developed or deployed (for example) energy efficiency programs, zero-discharge programs, and has had exposure to Lean/Six-Sigma or Green/Six-Sigma project methods to reduce environmental impact. Current corporate environmental goals include reductions in greenhouse gasses, solid waste, energy, and hazardous wastes.
