Overview: Our Transportation Group provides comprehensive environmental, planning, design, engineering, and program and construction management services for all phases of transit and rail projects. The ongoing success of our team allows you to set the pace of your career. We're currently looking for a Profit Center Practice Leader (PCPL) in our San Francisco office. The PCPL reports to Stantec's Transportation Practice Leader. The PCPL is the practice leader of the profit center (PC), accountable for the attainment of the PC’s business development and overall performance objectives. PCPL is primarily expected to participate in client development, proposal preparation and project delivery.
Responsibilities: Primary Responsibilities: - Business Development (40% Time Commitment)
- Project Specific Proposals - The PCPL will be responsible for development of teams and technical submissions for specific project pursuits primarily within the area of transportation with focus in transit and rail. Accordingly, PCPL is expected to be knowledgeable about client needs and expectations, special issues associated with specific types of projects and competitor strengths and weaknesses.
- Non-Project Specific Business Development - The PCPL is generally responsible for general business development activities related to the development of San Francisco Office. Accordingly, PCPL is expected to be knowledgeable about trends and developments affecting this market segment and understanding local and client sensitivities. To this end, PCPL is expected to review appropriate business and technical literature, attend appropriate meetings and seminars, represent Stantec on appropriate boards and committees and assist other PC staff in similar activities.
The PCPL is also expected to: - coordinate marketing activities with other PCs to foster interdisciplinary teaming on transportation projects.
- Identify PC priorities, strategic marketing opportunities, and support the strategic objectives of the practice area.
- prepare annual Marketing & Business Development Plan and Workbook for the PC.
- establish Net Revenue $ and % growth targets for the PC that are consistent with the PC's Marketing & Business Development Plan
- be current in terms of client, industry and market sector trends
- be responsible for preparation of major fee proposals, and for advising on minor fee proposals
- be responsible for keeping project profiles/tear sheets/images, staff profiles/resumes, and other SMKC contents current.
- coordinate, review, and approve attendance at conferences and tradeshows for all PC employees
Project Management/Task Management/Discipline Management (50% Time Commitment) The PCPL is also expected to be responsible for: - the execution and management of major or key projects in a leading role.
- the oversight and assistance to other project managers within the PC including intervention, when necessary, to address problematic projects
- checking that key project deliverables are being consistently reviewed by the Project Manager and professionals-of-record for quality assurance prior to issuance.
- checking that peer reviews are consistently being conducted in the PC on all key project deliverables prior to issuance
Secondary Responsibilities (10% Time Commitment) The PCPL is also expected to assist the PC Managing Leader (PCML) in the following: - develop and regularly review key financial targets in accordance with overall direction provided by Regional and Practice Leadership.
- maintain overall utilization goals and project delivery commitments through active management of staffing resources.
- manage Work in Progress and Accounts Receivable through regular discussions with Project Managers and clients, as necessary.
- identify and attract/retain staff within the PC to meet the PC’s goals including leading the discussion on appropriate compensation.
- provide local leadership in the office in which PCPL is located:
Qualifications: - 15 years increasingly responsible professional experience in Transit and Rail Systems Engineering in any of the following areas: communications, train control/signaling, vehicle engineering, traction power, overhead contact systems, fare collection, stray current mitigation/corrosion control, and rail operation and safety.
- PE required
- Bachelors Degree is a must, Masters is plus
- Knowledge in both design, project management and contract administration of successful projects
- Prior consulting experience within the Transportation sector is desired
- Relationships with major transit and transportation agencies is desired
- Proven / verifiable leadership skills
