The Senior Associate, Publications and Online Content, serves as the principal writer and editor for all publications of the Alliance to Save Energy, including newsletters (E-fficiency News, Associates Bulletin); annual reports and corporate marketing materials; and corporate website content. In this capacity, the Senior Associate, Publications and Online Content, maintains consistent corporate-wide messaging and AP style. In addition, the Senior Associate, Publications and Online Content, provides editorial support to Alliance staff to ensure high caliber and consistency of written materials. Furthermore, the Senior Associate has design skills that allow him/her to produce professional quality color documents (brochures, newsletters, invitations, etc) for publication.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Include the following:
Researches, writes, rewrites, edits, and proofreads stories for Alliance newsletters including E-fficiency News and Associates Bulletin, as well as providing editorial support to other Alliance staff producing special project newsletters. Sets and enforces editorial/production calendar for E-fficiency News. Writes content for Alliance web site; keeps homepage content, as well as all basic corporate content, up-to-date and fresh. Writes copy for annual report, Alliance corporate brochures, and all other corporate materials, including staff bios and team fact sheets. Writes copy for Alliance's annual international energy efficiency conference (EE Global) promotional material, newsletter and website. Sets and keeps to editorial/production schedule for Alliance annual report; writes report to reflect direction and theme established by Alliance president and coordinates with outside designer. Works with research staff to ensure factual accuracy of content of Alliance publications, presentations, web content, etc. Convenes biweekly editorial meeting of all Alliance print and electronic newsletter editors (Content Committee) to coordinate content. Reviews Alliance print and electronic newsletters for style, accuracy, and consistency. Ensures consistent messaging and AP style throughout all Alliance publications and communications. Edits other Alliance documents, such as reports, as needed. Provides guidance and training to Alliance staff on publications style and content. Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications or related field. (Advanced degree desirable.) Minimum three years experience in communications or related field. Strong and efficient writing and editing abilities; AP writing style. Design skills, including use of In-Design software, Photoshop and Power Point. Ability to translate information into news for publications and online readership. Ability to work on a number of projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. Ability to work with a variety of staff members in managing an editorial schedule (management experience desirable). Ability to manage outside vendors, including budgets, project deliverables and contracts. Enthusiasm for professional development, undertaking new types of work, and learning new skills. Good interpersonal skills for interacting with vendors and Alliance staff. Enthusiasm for advocacy- and issue-oriented communications work. Commitment to the Alliance's mission of saving energy and to promoting its message, through online media and in other ways, to the public and policy makers.
