Our Environmental Management group is dedicated to managing environmental issues professionally and proactively. Our staff of professionals includes specialists in marine biology, wetland science, wildlife biology, soil science, fisheries biology, botany, hydrogeology, hydrology, forestry, habitat and ecosystem restoration, permitting, GIS, and Information Management. We help our clients to identify and respond to opportunities and threats within constantly changing regulatory and corporate environments, through active engagement with the public, stakeholder groups, and governmental regulators. Responsibilities:

Stantec’s office in downtown Calgary is currently seeking Senior Environmental and Regulatory Specialists to provide technical support on large scale energy projects.  This position will be part of Stantec’s Environmental Management team that provides the full range of expertise needed to address any permitting and approval requirements. Our staff members have established excellent working relationships with regulatory agencies throughout North America, and our regulatory knowledge and scientific expertise allow us to help our clients develop the most effective approach to securing regulatory approvals.

 

Responsibilities will be, but are not limited to:

  • Provide technical and regulatory support for large-scale energy projects in the pre-project permitting stage and following major regulatory approvals
  • Work directly with clients to provide strategic advice and project management throughout all stages of the regulatory permitting process, including provincial and federal regulatory frameworks
  • Prepare budgets and identify tasks while carrying out project work within agreed time-frames and on budget
  • Lead teams of technical biophysical and engineering specialists to support the permitting process.
  • Create technical documents and provide senior review of technical documents that support regulatory submissions
  • Contribute to and lead business development activities,  including  proposals, pre-qualifications, and relationship building with clients and prospective clients
  • Champion and implement Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work and coordinate with HSE professionals during the execution of all phases of project planning and implementation
  • Communicate and collaborate with other Environmental and Regulatory Specialists to ensure consistency in project execution and contribute to the development of junior staff
  • Participate in team and independent based work


Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in the Sciences or in Environmental Studies
  • A minimum of 10 years of environmental and regulatory related experience,  in one or more of the following industries:
    • Oil sands
    • Oil and gas
    • Pipelines
    • Electrical transmission
  • Project and task management experience with strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated effective writing and communication skills
  • Demonstrated team player with the ability to work independently and take initiative
