Job Description: 

Our Bookkeeper is responsible for keeping and tracking the financial records of the organization and ensuring that all payments, taxes, and other disbursements are made in an accurate and timely manner. He or she is responsible for payroll and associated recordkeeping. He or she prepares monthly financial updates and prepares other financial information as needed. The Bookkeeper will use QuickBooks software for accounting, and will also maintain appropriate paper files.

This is an hourly, part-time position of approximately 20 hours per week, working Monday - Friday.
Specific Responsibilities

The Bookkeeper is responsible for keeping and tracking the financial records of the organization and ensuring that all payments, taxes, and other disbursements are made in an accurate and timely manner. Duties include:

* Managing monthly payroll, including reimbursements, calculating vacation and sick leave, and other payroll items;

* Reconciling all bank and brokerage accounts on a monthly basis;
* Ensuring that all receipts are assigned to the proper accounts;
* Preparing all Northern Plains financial statements and year-to-date budget reports on a monthly basis;
* Reviewing financial records with management;
* Preparing and filing all tax reports (worker's compensation, state and federal taxes);
* Maintaining the computer accounting system;
* Ensuring payment of all accounts payable, as authorized;
* Ensuring accounts receivable are billed and followed up on;
* Arranging prompt reimbursements for staff expenses;
* Handling inquiries from vendors about payment questions;
* Obtaining bids from vendors, as necessary;
* Reconciling transactions from special events;
* Providing information to auditors for the annual audit;
* Assist with annual budget preparation

The Bookkeeper is also responsible for performing the administrative tasks that all employees perform. This includes, but is not limited to:

* Filling out monthly time sheets and other office paperwork, as appropriate (e.g., requests for leave, sick leave, reimbursements);

* Answering the office phones if no one else is available;
* Taking messages and delivering them to the appropriate staff person in a timely fashion;
* Attending assigned meetings;
* Taking on additional assignments when other staff persons are absent and as requested.

Necessary Qualifications

Applicants must have a minimum of an associates' degree in accounting. Experience in nonprofit accounting is preferred. He or she must work accurately, be organized and detail-oriented. He or she must be familiar with QuickBooks, Excel, and Word. He or she must be able to take direction and then work independently. Trustworthiness is a high priority, and a background check will be conducted.

Wage: $12-$15/hour, DOE. This is a 20 hour/week position
Benefits: 8 paid holidays, plus sick leave and vacation time. After one month on the job, this position will begin to accrue paid vacation time at the rate of 10 paid shifts off per year, and 5 shifts of paid sick leave per year.
