Job Description: 

Based out of the North Cascades Environmental Learning Center in North Cascades National Park (Diablo, Washington), the Program Coordinator works with program staff to coordinate Institute programs including Mountain School, Seminars/Retreats, Family Programs, Diablo Downtimes, Sourdough Speakers, Field Programs, and Base Camp. This position will primarily be responsible for the operation of programs, including coordination with food service, housekeeping, maintenance and other operations staff; communication with schools and partners; oversight of safety/risk management; and collaboration with other program staff to administer the programs effectively and efficiently. This position will teach and lead programs as required. The Program Coordinator will work closely with Institute program partners, primarily North Cascades National Park. Supervised by the Program Director, this is a full-time, exempt position with occasional responsibility for overnight supervision of the Learning Center campus. This position has the responsibility to apply good judgment and discretion, particularly with the welfare and safety of all participants.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Education, Education, Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology or related field
- Enthusiasm for learning and teaching about the natural world
- Experience coordinating program logistics
- Experience training seasonal staff
- Residential environmental education experience a plus
- Must be creative, energetic, flexible, motivated and professional
- Must possess a sense of humor and enjoy working as a cooperative team player
- Must be willing to work full days and evenings; weekend work will be required
- Ability to work and live comfortably in a small, remote community
- Ability to hike over varied elevation and terrain for extended periods
- Current Wilderness First Responder certification required
- A criminal history and background check
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Current, valid drivers license

Responsibilities
- Coordinate program needs with other staff (medical information, food, transportation, lodging, etc.).
- Instruct lessons in natural and cultural history, science, the arts and other subjects in support of NCI programs as required.
- Instruct pre- and post-visits to classrooms.
- Assist in developing training schedules and training teaching staff in collaboration with the program team.
- Develop and coordinate activities for Mountain School of parent chaperones, teachers, and group leaders while on-site.
- Research and write risk management policies including youth behavioral issues and communicate such policies with schools, group leaders and NCI staff.
- Maintain relationships with schools, federal agencies and non-governmental organizations.
- Assist in evaluating teaching staff.
- Provide oversight for schools on-site including serving as on-campus overnight supervisor during Mountain School and other Learning Center programs as assigned (Wilderness First Responder certification required).
- Coordinate program administration with Institute's administrative office.
- Work collaboratively with the program team to manage programs.
- Lead for collecting and organizing program records and paperwork.
- Assist with scheduling for Mountain School including school visits, staffing, etc.
- Assist with tracking program expenses and developing annual program budget.
- Oversee inventory, purchasing, maintenance and storage of equipment.
- Assist in all facets of Learning Center programs and operations (e.g., maintenance, host, instructor) as needed.
- Represent the Institute at conferences, festivals and community events as needed.
- Participate in Institute's program, risk management and Learning Center teams as needed.
- Participate in strategic planning, inter-office communications and other duties as assigned by the Program Director, Operations Director and/or Executive Director.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

Compensation
This is a full-time, exempt position. We offer a competitive compensation package; benefits include paid time off, medical/dental insurance and tax-defined annuity and contribution retirement plans. Housing may be available on or near campus; pets and smoking are not allowed in housing or at the Learning Center. The Learning Center is located approximately 20 miles from the nearest gas station and post office, 60 miles from towns with full amenities.
