The Oregon Environmental Council is seeking a development director to lead our grant fundraising program (which includes both soliciting and reporting) and corporate fundraising programs. The development director works with the executive director, deputy director and program staff to write compelling grant proposals and reports, is responsible for researching grant opportunities and identifying new prospects, and maintains the system for tracking and reporting in a timely manner. The development director leads corporate fundraising, which includes developing a comprehensive strategy and coordinating communications with companies that support our organization (which can take the form of general support, program-specific support and/or support for specific events). The position could take on responsibility for managing our annual fundraising event. The development director works closely with other staff on the development team (the director of major gifts, marketing & membership director, development assistant and executive assistant) who are focused on major donor fundraising, general membership, events, prospect research, and database management. The development director also coordinates with the executive director, deputy director, financial manager, communications director, and program staff. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, organized, can juggle multiple tasks and deadlines effectively and is an excellent, fast writer who appreciates a collaborative writing process. S/he should enjoy working with diverse people and have strong social and interpersonal skills. This is a responsible position in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES • Research and track foundation and government grant funding opportunities; write and edit proposals and reports in collaboration with program staff; develop budgets in coordination with the deputy director; ensure deadlines are met and provide regular updates to foundations. • Research and prospect for new grant opportunities to meet grant revenue budget goals. • Develop and implement a plan to expand corporate contributions and lead the solicitation effort for corporate sponsorships of OEC's events and organizational contributions. • Work with executive director to develop revenue projections and track throughout the year. • Develop new giving relationships through partnerships, special initiatives and projects to increase and diversify revenue for OEC. QUALIFICATIONS Required: • Background (minimum 7 years) and successful track record in fundraising, particularly grant seeking. • Gift for communicating and writing in a clear and compelling fashion. • Self-motivation and initiative. • Ability to multi-task and coordinate several projects simultaneously while keeping track of the big picture. Must have great organizational skills and work efficiently. • Good interpersonal skills and flexibility. Able to pick up the phone and make a pitch. • A passion for OEC's mission. Enthusiasm for representing a dynamic organization. Desirable: • Familiarity with Oregon funding sources and with regional and national sources of environmental funding. • Experience with event organizing. • Experience securing corporate gifts. • Experience with capital campaigns. • Experience in prospect research, particularly for foundation fundraising. • Experience managing volunteers. • Experience and successful track record with online membership recruitment. • Experience working in a non-profit setting with a mission-driven staff and board. • Bachelor's degree or equivalent. • Sense of humor. • Knowledge of Salesforce. COMPENSATION AND AMENITIES Salary is commensurate with experience.
