Job Description: 

This position is responsible for the overall success of TPL's Direct Mail and Online Giving programs. The director directs and administers all aspects of the program including: TPL's Annual Fund (acquiring, cultivating and upgrading donors), mail solicitation of Stegner Society donors, web-based fundraising, acquisition programs, renewals and special appeals. Has primary responsibility for meeting Direct Mail and Online Giving revenue goals and increasing TPL donor population per development plan. Responsible for creating programs that add value to TPL and that enhance relationships with individual donors. Collaborates with national marketing staff to create meaningful communications to build donor loyalty. The position also works closely with the CDO and Campaign Manager to coordinate and implement large projects for a comprehensive campaign. Supervises a Donor Relations Manager and a Direct Mail / Online Giving Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

50% Directs, plans, manages and implements mail and online fundraising programs including acquisition, renewal, appeal, cultivation, acknowledgement, stewardship and monthly giving .

* Directs and manages staff and consultants to develop, write, design, produce and implement TPL's Direct Mail and Online Giving communications. Has primary responsibility for setting strategy, setting schedules, managing deadlines and meeting revenue goals / increasing donor population per development plan. Works with Marketing Department to ensure that direct mail and online fundraising presents current and accurate messaging and brand identity to donors. Works with editorial review board to approve direct mail content.
* Directs all aspects of Stegner Society membership mail program including acquiring new members, renewing and upgrading current members, collaborating with state development staff to ensure that local cultivation activities and communications are taking place.
* Works collaboratively with Manger of Donor Relations on the organization wide donor relations program focused on the cultivation and recognition of major donors and prospects. Collaborates with the Manager of Donor Relations on the Annual Report.
* Actively work to integrate the program with other fundraising and communications activity, in particular: Legacy Giving, Major Gift Solicitations and Marketing Department efforts.

30% Development Strategy Development and Implementation

* Critical responsibility to lead an exploration of new strategies to identify and develop new constituencies to support TPL.
* Works with marketing, project, program and development staff to set strategy and identify compelling projects/programs to showcase in fundraising activities
* Participate in Environmental Collaborative to benchmark TPL's program results against 12 other national environmental organizations.
* With Senior Development Managers develops and tests special annual fund giving strategies such as, sustainer and upgrade programs, and lapsed donor program. Tests strategies and evaluates results.
* Assists the CDO and Campaign Manager in coordinating and implementing large projects in preparation for a comprehensive campaign.

10% Analysis, Reporting and Revenue Generation

* Manage the Direct Mail Budget. Updates budget forecasts in collaboration with Finance and Accounting Departments.
* Prepares weekly, monthly and annual reports. Oversees analysis to ensure strategies are effective.

10% Other Duties as Assigned.

Qualifications:

* Requires bachelor's degree.
* Minimum 4 to 6 or more years of experience in nonprofit fund raising, with demonstrated success in soliciting donors and prospects through the mail and online
* Minimum 2 years experience in a supervisory role.
* Familiarity with Oracle database software and planned-giving specific software a plus.
* Willingness and ability to travel.
* Outstanding oral & written communication skills.
* Excellent organizational and analytic skills.
* Energetic, creative, analytical problem-solver with strong attention to detail
