Job Description: 

Environment America is a federation of state-based, citizen-funded environmental advocacy organizations. Our professional staff in 23 states and Washington, D.C., combines independent research, practical ideas and tough-minded advocacy to overcome the opposition of powerful special interests and win real results for the environment. Environment America, the new home of U.S. PIRG's environmental work, draws on 30 years of success in tackling environmental problems.

Environment America is expanding our reach and hiring a Director of Online and New Organizing Strategies.

Current Campaigns

* Pass Obama's Energy Plan through the Senate
* Help Texas Go Solar
* Stand up to the Wall Street insiders so we can craft a more sustainable financial system
* Cut health care costs

Qualifications

1) We are looking for a candidate who can help expand the reach and depth of our organization. The internet is central to the today and the tomorrow of social communication, citizen activism, winning hearts and minds, and fundraising.
2) The ideal candidate would develop and implement innovative strategies to engage citizens, train the next generation of activists, build strong communities and coalitions and get real results on important campaigns tackling some of the key issues the country is facing.
3) At least 8 years of relevant experience and demonstrated achievement in:

* Creating, proposing, developing organizational priorities
* New media or online organizing strategies
* Relationship-building with both internal and external audiences
* Creating and implementing persuasive campaigns
* Fundraising

Responsibilities

1) Develop network wide New Organizing strategy. Obtain approval and resources from the Environment America board. Drive the implementation to reach the goals. Report on progress monthly, quarterly and yearly. Adjust strategy and tactics yearly as needed.
2) Work with executive directors to craft strategies that add up to meet the network wide goals.
3) Raise the money to fund the New Organizing program across the network.

* Directly through your own work from members, large donors, foundations.
* Work with executive directors, department directors to incorporate the fundraising plan across the network

4) Travel up to twice per month to:

* Lead and participate in internal national meetings, team meetings and trainings.
* Represent Environment America and its New Organizing project at external meetings, conferences, programs -- attending, speaking, leading, and organizing at external events.


Work with:

* Executive directors of Environment America and affiliated organizations- each with over 25 years social change experience and state directors with wide variety of backgrounds, skills, interests and experience levels.
* Operations and creative directors for Internet Organizing, Communications, Design, Fundraising and Citizen Outreach.

Salary & Benefits

Salary for this position is commensurate with relevant professional experience and/or advanced degrees. A competitive benefits package includes health care coverage, educational loan assistance, a retirement plan and paid vacation and sick days.

Location

Position based in Denver, Colorado. Other locations considered for exceptional candidates.
