The State Development Director is responsible for the design and implementation of all fund raising activities to support the Trust for Public Land's land conservation activities in the state. The State Director of Development works closely with the State Director to develop fund raising goals and projections and to build a major gifts program with a special focus on individual giving. This position also works closely with the State Office project and administrative staff, Divisional project and administrative staff, and TPL National development staff, and interacts closely and frequently with donors and Advisory Council volunteers. The State Director of Development reports to the Divisional Director of Development. Responsibilities: 50% In cooperation with the State Director and TPL National development staff, oversees all major gift fundraising activities in the state, with a special emphasis on identification, cultivation, solicitation, and management of major donors and foundations, including creating solicitation letters, proposals and other materials, managing donors and donor prospects lists, promoting planned giving, and involving senior management and project staff in cultivation as needed. 15% Works with State Director and Advisory Council Chair to sustain existing Advisory Council members, including acting as a liaison with the Council on development-related activities, and to identify and cultivate new Advisory Council members. 15% Works with project staff to identify and meet program and project operating and capital needs including creating, packaging and marketing TPL programs and projects to individual and institutional prospects (in collaboration with Institutional Giving Directors), and developing fundraising materials as needed. Develops annual development action plans, revenue and expense budgets, and long-range (3-5 years) fundraising goals. 10% Manages all donor recognition and donor communications for the State Office, coordinating closely with divisional and national Marketing departments. 5% Maintains donor tracking records on Pledgemaker and generates donor-tracking reports for both individual and institutional donors. 5% In cooperation with divisional and national Development and Public Affairs staff, plans and produces donor-oriented special events. Expectations: The SDD is expected to: * Carry between 35-45 active, high level prospects and 40-50 pipeline prospects Experience, Education and Skills Required: * Minimum six years of fund-raising experience, including direct major gift solicitations.
