Job Description: 

The Associate Director of Communications is responsible for developing and implementing communications strategies to advance the objectives of the organization's conservation campaigns. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented, high energy professional who is interested in making a difference in the field of conservation. The Associate Director reports to the Communications Director.

This position is based in Washington, DC.

DUTIES AND RESPOSIBILITIES:

* Conceive, develop and implement communications plans for American Rivers conservation campaigns.
* Work closely with conservation staff to identify and seize communications opportunities, including new and traditional media, and other channels.
* Work with a national team of communications professionals to coordinate strategy, set goals, and prioritize efforts. Collaborate with colleagues in Washington, DC and in the regions.
* Write and edit materials for a variety of platforms, including the web, media, and print publications.
* Assist conservation staff in creation of presentations and speeches, and in preparing for news interviews.
* Drive American Rivers content to a broad range of online channels, including Facebook, Twitter, blogs, etc. Assist the Communications Director with online work, including: growing the organizations presence on social networking sites (such as Twitter and Facebook), online activism, email marketing, and website maintenance.
* Track and report results for each campaign, and recommend shifts in tactics to increase results.
* Administrative work related directly to these projects should be expected.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years in communications, media relations or similar experience, preferably in conservation, advocacy, or political campaigns.
* Exceptional communication, writing and organizational skills.
* Skilled in online and social media and able to use those venues to engage AR's audiences. Experience on social networks a must; experience producing content for social networks and/or blogs a plus.
* Ability to manage multiple projects in fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
* Personal commitment to the American Rivers mission.
