Overview: Stantec’s current staff of professionals includes specialists in wildlife biology, marine biology, wetland science, botany, hydrology, forestry, habitat restoration, permitting, and GIS. State and Federal regulators have respect for Stantec scientists and their work. Our Environmental Management Group is dedicated to managing environmental issues proactively and professionally. In the Environmental Management Group of Stantec, team members have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of projects that may include endangered species assessments, habitat restoration, wetland characterizations, or hydrologic assessments. We focus on hiring exceptionally talented, enthusiastic, and hard working individuals that have a keen interest in the natural sciences and working in a team based environment. Responsibilities: The Primary responsibilities for the Field Technician will involve conducting one or more types of wildlife surveys at operational wind facilities. The position requires conducting standardized searches for injured or dead birds and bats at operational wind facilities. Keen observational skills and bird and bat identification are required. Other tasks may include bat acoustic detector surveys, breeding bird surveys, and raptor surveys. This position works both independently and as part of a larger survey team. Fieldwork is available for bird and bat mortality monitoring and possibly bats acoustic detector surveys at multiple project locations. Most projects are located throughout the Western states.

Qualifications: Successful applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, or related field, and a strong interest in wildlife biology. Superb observation skills are highly valued, as are a keen interest in ecosystems, comfort with computers and technology, a willingness to learn new skills while conducting fieldwork in rural or wilderness settings, and flexibility in undertaking work assignments. Must be familiar with visual identification of western birds and bats. Willingness to travel and work independently for long hours in the field is necessary. Candidates should be in good physical condition and have a reliable personal vehicle. In addition to a competitive salary, lodging and mileage reimbursement are provided.
