Job Description: 

The Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) is a nonprofit organization representing electric utility, solar industry, and stakeholder members. SEPA's mission is to facilitate solutions for the use and integration of solar electric power by utilities, electric service providers, and their customers. Serving as an integral member of the management team, the Director of Education will be responsible for the assessment, development and implementation of SEPA's educational programming strategy and will contribute to SEPA's organizational strategic planning process.

The Director of Education will lead a world-class education team for SEPA's membership and other stakeholders, directly managing existing and new conferences, training programs, webinars, fact finding missions and other educational forums. The Director of Education will be responsible for assessing the educational needs of SEPA's membership and determining the appropriate formats for delivering programming that meets these needs. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the team which develops the content for educational programming and executes related event logistics. The goal is to advance the organization's position with electric utilities, solar companies, and other constituents as a superior provider of education and training.

 

Responsibilities

Education Strategy, Vision and Leadership

* Develop and implement an integrated strategic education plan that meets the educational needs of SEPA's membership and creates new revenue streams
* Develop strategic partnerships that will enhance SEPA's ability to provide unparalleled educational programming for target audiences

Education Operations

* Oversee development and implementation of all SEPA educational programming including but not limited to conferences, training programs, fact finding missions, and webinars; manage relationships with associated vendors
* Serve as primary SEPA staff liaison for Solar Energy Trade Shows, an LLC jointly owned by SEPA and the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) for the production of Solar Power International, PV America, and other large annual trade shows
* Oversee the day-to-day activities of the education function including budgeting, planning and staff development

Team Development/Management

* Recruit and manage a team of education and event specialists to support the development and execution of the education strategy
* Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality
* Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach on a consistent basis
* Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, and conduct annual performance appraisals

Qualifications

* Minimum 10 years experience in a senior management role developing educational programming and implementing events in a non-profit environment
* Extensive successful development of content for education programs
* Extensive successful implementation of events of all sizes and shapes (large & small; in-person & virtual, etc)
* Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing a comprehensive strategic education program to advance an organization's mission and goals
* Creative and thoughtful on how new technologies can be utilized
* Demonstrated success managing vendors
* Innovative thinker, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and output
* Experience in building, mentoring, and coaching a team of education and event specialists
* Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
* Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers
* Stature, gravitas, and confidence to gain the credibility and respect of a high-performing Board of Directors
* Self reliant, good problem solver, results oriented
* Ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs
* Excellent and persuasive communicator
* Energetic, flexible, collaborative and proactive; a team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical initiatives
* Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management, SEPA's Board of Directors and staff
* Ability to operate as an effective tactical as well as strategic thinker
* Passion for SEPA's mission
