| Job Description: |
The Organic Specialist will work with farmers to provide information on how to produce organic crops and livestock. The specialist will help farmers through the difficult process of transitioning to organic production and certification. Candidates should have a BS or MS degree or equivalent in horticulture, animal science, pest management or soils management or a related field. An understanding and experience working with USDA organic regulations is required. Responsibilities * Provide information and support to farmers on how to transition to organic production and certification Qualifications NCAT values excellent communication skills as positions involve public speaking, writing and proposal development. All jobs may require specialists to prepare publications, topical summaries, bibliographies, workshop materials and website postings while targeting a variety of audiences of varying degrees of technical knowledge. Requirements may also include disseminating information to farmers via e-mail, telephone and in person and working with other sustainable agriculture specialists to identify farmer needs and appropriate delivery methods. Specialists may also assist in project development activities and attend conferences, workshops, seminars and related events in support of project duties.
