Job Description: 

The Operations Assistant will perform a variety of accounting and clerical tasks requiring knowledge of basic office procedures and accounting principles and methods in one or more of the following areas: accounts payable, accounts receivable, tax credit and collections and/or related accounting areas. This position requires a welcoming disposition and both strong communication and interactive skills, as this person is the first ISC employee to great visitors, vendors and answer phones. The successful candidate must be able to maintain confidentiality in a fast-paced office environment.

ISC is based in beautiful, picturesque Vermont, a state that values grassroots democracy and environmental stewardship, with international offices in China, Macedonia, Serbia, and Kosovo.
Responsibilities

* Maintains equipment and supply environment; maintains records relating to receipt and issuance of materials or equipment;
* Prepares purchase and supply requisitions;
* Efficiently operate multi-line phone system;
* Supports the preparation, verification process and maintenance in a variety of one or more general accounting functions or documents;
* Sorts, classifies and codes entries and transactions in accordance with established department procedures, accounting systems, and verbal instructions;
* Maintains accounting records by posting and reconciling data in accounting system;
* Posts and balances entries in appropriate journals, registers, logs or other records on a daily or periodic basis;
* Receives, accounts for and safeguards cash and checks, issues receipts and classifies and code transactions;
* Maintains petty cash funds; reconciles balances, make deposits, and maintains related records;
* Assists with coordinating international accounting interactions;
* Perform monthly close-out for copier and postage machine;
* Completes monthly allocation of phone bills and internet bills;
* Process travel reconciliations and reimbursements;
* Sorts and distributes mail according to general knowledge of department activities and progrmas;
* Responds to general questions regarding department procedures, policies and processes;
* Provides back-up support to other support positions and the office in case of absence or work overload.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's Degree and/or equivalent experience;
* 1 to 2 years of accounting experience;
* Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel applications, accounting software a plus;
* Knowledge of basic math, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide accurately;
* Knowledge of basic bookkeeping practices and procedures;
* Working knowledge of office practices, procedures and equipment;
* Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work duties to meet department deadlines;
* Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with internal and external customers using tact, courtesy and good judgment;
* Data entry skills with a high degree of accuracy.
