Job Description: 

Friends of the Chicago River is the only organization solely dedicated to the Chicago River. Since 1979, Friends has been working to improve the health of the Chicago River for the benefit of people and wildlife and by doing so, has laid the foundation for the river to be a beautiful, continuous, easily accessible corridor of open space in the Chicago region.

Summary: Friends of the Chicago River is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic fundraising professional to serve as Development Manager for our award-winning environmental organization.

Position Overview: This is a three-quarter time (30 hour a week) position.

Friends' ideal Development Manager is a self-directed individual with exceptional communication skills and a positive outlook who is seeking a management-level position in which s/he can make a real difference.

Key responsibilities include:

* Handling all phases of grant writing and reporting
* Coordinating ongoing relations with grantors
* Maintaining grant records and tracking systems
* Directing annual membership campaigns and other individual giving efforts
* Serving as primary writer and editor of membership campaigns and the annual report as well as coordinating the production and distribution of these pieces
* Managing the strategic development of Friends' database and on-line giving vehicles
* Working in partnership with the executive director and director of development on special fundraising projects

Qualifications:

At least three to five years of professional experience in fundraising, marketing, and/or communications. Grant writing experience and track record of fundraising success are highly desirable. Outstanding writing, editing, and verbal communications skills. Capable of articulating complex issues to audiences with varying levels of sophistication. Solid project management,
prioritizing, and organizational skills. Advanced computer proficiency. Collaborative working style
while also adept at making recommendations and decisions. Budgeting, financial reporting, and online giving experience as well as above average knowledge of databases are also pluses. Interest in and commitment to environmental issues.

Compensation and benefits: Starting salary of $31,500 for 30 hours per week. Competitive
