The Coastal Conservation League is seeking a self-motivated individual with excellent communication and organizational skills and a strong work ethic to join its Columbia office staff as Climate and Energy Policy Manager. The League's Energy and Climate Program promotes protection of the region's particularly vulnerable coastal resources through local, state, regional, and national advocacy aimed at making South Carolina a leader in energy and climate change policy. Current program priorities include state-level clean energy policy, local climate change planning, and energy efficiency advocacy and education. Primary Functions: To serve as a liaison between the South Carolina Legislature and League and its members regarding issues of interest to the organization. To manage energy and climate issues and projects as assigned. Duties/Responsibilities: Research, monitor and analyze policy, legislation and state regulations. Work closely with legislative staff and program directors to determine the League's position and strategy on specific policy, legislative, and regulatory issues.Collaborate with legislative staff and program directors to influence legislative and regulatory outcomes by communicating with members of the General Assembly, the South Carolina Public Service Commission, the Office of Regulatory Staff, media representatives and the general public. Manage efforts of the program staff, interns and grassroots volunteers who are working on issues for which he/she has been assigned primary responsibility. Officially represent the League throughout the community on issues for which he/she has been assigned primary responsibility.Attend public meetings and hearings to gather information and/or represent the League's interests, including testifying on issues as needed at legislative committee hearings and the state public service commission. Works with the team leader to determine when and how to mobilize external constituencies and makes sure that the necessary alliances and relationships are built and maintained. Help determine when and how to mobilize external constituencies and communicate with members and partners through weekly legislative updates, action alerts and other media outlets. Help coordinate effective media campaigns on policy, legislative and regulatory issues. Participate in the planning of legislative events such as lobby days, member outings, educational workshops and press conferences. Maintain effective working relationships with utilities, industry, governmental bodies, conservation partners and allies, foundations, board members, and major donors. Website URL http://coastalconservationleague.org Additional Info Candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills; 2-4 years of experience working in a similar field; BA/BS, preferably in political science, public policy, communications or environmental studies/science; understanding of environmental issues, specifically climate and energy, and the various constituents involved; the ability to work independently; and willingness to travel and work non-traditional hours. Experience working on energy and climate issues in the Southeast is a plus. A strong grasp of energy and climate policy is essential. Compensation depends on experience and employment history and is competitive with similar positions nationwide. The Conservation League offers a comprehensive benefit package.
