Job Description: 

Chevron Mining Inc. is accepting online applications for the position of Senior Environmental Engineer located in Questa, New Mexico through April 17, 2009. Chevron Mining Inc. operates three coal mines and an underground molybdenum mine. This position is located in the Questa moly mine.

Overview:

Under the general direction of the Manager, Environmental and Public Policy, the Senior Environmental Engineer manages reclamation and closure permitting. Includes providing support and coordination for environmental legacy issues, working with internal staff, regulatory personnel, external stakeholders, consultants and contractors. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance and implementation of the environmental strategy incompliance with Company guidelines, OEMS and all environmental regulations and laws.
Position Details: Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

• Managing Closeout Plan and Closure Plan permitting activities including meeting with agency and stakeholder groups, managing submittals and correspondence with agencies in order to effectively manage long term closure planning and permitting for the facility.
• Manage consultants working on studies, reports and other support for Closeout Plan and Closure Plan efforts. This will include directing and coordination of studies for various programs and integration into comprehensive closure documents suitable for submittal to State agencies.
• Coordinate with other business unit staff in order to ensure continued best practices, implementation of good science and maximize efficiencies among programs. Will work with the Manager, Environmental and Public Policy to develop and implement the environmental stewardship strategy for the facility.
• Provide support for implementation of reclamation activities to ensure coordination with ongoing operations. Manage agency and stakeholder relations through implementation phase.
• Manage other site-wide environmental permitting activities as necessary (i.e., air permitting) in order to ensure continued business operations and compliance with all environmental regulations and laws.

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree required in Environmental Science, Engineering or related fields (minimum of 5 years environmental experience).
• Environmental Experience: Includes experience in environmental permitting with multiple agencies, understanding of environmental laws and regulations.
• Reclamation Experience: Experience in oversight of reclamation projects or programs, including conceptual design, test plot programs and reclamation of mine sites.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written skills, effective communicator with ability to communicate with regulatory agencies, external stakeholders and internal stakeholders.
• Initiative and Reliability: Ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects in a timely manner, with little direct supervision. Ability to manage multiple consulting firms and / or contractors.
• Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, sharing ideas, skills and knowledge. Cooperative and diplomatic with coworkers, regulatory agency personnel and stakeholders.
• Organizational Skills: Demonstrated project management skills, project and permit tracking and database management.

Preferred Qualifications:

Mining experience preferred.

Relocation Options:

Relocation may be considered within Chevron parameters.
